Can anyone here tell me if this Helmet is from the first or second world war?
I suspect the first for a few reasons.
-The Belgian Flag, indicates that the infantry it belonged to served for or in Belgium, and as far as I know they didn't tend to stamp national flags on British Helmets in the second world war, as a way of breaking up infantry. I could be wrong.
-The way in which the foam/leather guard is attached is bolted from the outside, looking at WW 2 helmets (http://www.quanonline.com/military/military_reference/misc/photos/british_helmet_top.jpg) this doesn't seem to be how they were made.
-The shape, Its got a much deeper or should I say Taller dome than later designs,
But im far from an expert, I really have no idea...

I'd say it looks like a world war one helmet.

Actually it looks to me to be a Belgian MK2 helment from WWII.
During WWI the Belgians used the M1915 which were supplied by France.

mmm, The Flag of the helmet, has it got its own steel plate... Because I know this about german helmets from world war I ....the had the eagle in front of their helmet and they were falt when the rest of the helmet was curved...the logo had its own metal plate. That was the couse of many deaths because the bullet didn't curve of...like bouching off on a round sphere. The Germans changed it later.
I guess WWI, iam not an expert either but I would say that... maybe if you have answer to my question.... I seems like it hasn't...
And even before that they had pointed helmets
WAIT! weren't they helmets of they belgians blue? I saw it in Idiana Jones once, the series, when they had world war one.....This might be the answer, but still

It's painted on. And im not sure if it's Belgian or not. Most of the trench warefair was fought in Belgium, so this could be British, American or Canadian.

Well my source isn't Indiana Jones but a Belgian helmet during WWI would look like this (http://www.nomanslandmilitaria.com/308%20French%20late%20M150002.jpg)
Actually it looks like the original helmet (MK2) didn't enter service until the late 1940s. I doubt that helmet was in either war.

Indeed. They where called "Belgian blue"! :D
No, I belive that the helmet comes from british surplus, WWII or post-WWII. Remember that the brits together with the french and americans where the ones that ruled western Europe after the war, so they certainly sent a lot of military gear to their satellites, to better "protect them" from the soviets.

It's shaped very similar to the British 'Tommy' Helmet they wore in World War One, and as the Belgians were resisting the German Schlieffen plan at the start of the war, it would only be fair that we send them some supplies along with our troops, seeing as we had a pact with them ('The Treaty of London' I think). They had their own helmets of course, but perhaps not enough?
They could have painted Belgian flags on them to make them easily identifiable as Belgians and not British soldiers? I'm not really sure.
Why do you want to find out anyway, just out of interest?

By the way, what was the differences between the british helmet used during WWI and under WWII?
They both look the same in my eyes.

Belgian WW1 helmets look ed more like this:

A bit like the Prussian and French ones.
Also, your helmet looks a bit more modern. Just a hunch. Either way, i can't tell.

What's this? History being turned into Antiques Roadshow?
Anyways, I would definitely think that helmet was originally issued during WWI times though it may have been used all the way down to WW2.

I hate to be a bore, but wasn't the M1915 a ww1 cavalry helmet?

Not AFAIK. It may well have been used by cavalry as well but I've definitely seen pics of French infantry wearing Adrian style helmets.

Correct.
It was used by many countries during WWII, as well as the French and Belgians.
The photo is a strange one, the overall shape is similar to the Adrian helmet but it has none of the 'frills'.
It may be a civil defence helmet or simply a cheaper version of the Adrian.
Most countries who used the Adrian helmet had some sort of cockade on the front or at least a regiment number, which makes me think it might be for civil use like the ARP etc.
