View Full Version : My Education And Plan Of Action

Hey, I'm back, have been very busy lately but things are finally calming down a bit. I just graduate from High School and finally got all of my stuff done for enrollment in Drake University this coming fall!

Anyway, what I am posting about is my education. By far I am the most competent person when it comes to knowledge of socialism and the surrounding ideas in my tiny town of 6k, which isn’t saying a lot at all. In the grand scheme of things, my knowledge is indeed very limited, and there are hardly any opportunities around here for me to learn directly from another person. This bothers me, as I do truly feel the desire to learn everything possible about socialism so I am better prepared to promote it's cause.

Reading and whatnot is all good, but many things are more easily and more effectively learned from another person who really understands the subject matter. This is where I have a problem, being that I live in such a secluded area of America where conservatives are everywhere.

I really don’t know what to do, and it is bothering me.

Secondly, as I have said before here, I believe that there is a need for greater solidarity and more centralized organization on the left (sort of a paradox in many cases, I know) So, I call for a stronger education effort followed by the creation of a strongly structured organization, here in the Rev Left community. I am talking the kind of thing that has a budget (limited, yes =\ ), published papers, and an official membership base (membership cards, application and review, etc) This will create a stronger feeling of unity on the left, and lead us towards greater success in the future.

This probably isn't a popular idea, but I really would like to see something of this nature in the future. Thank you.

no "strongly structured ogranization" can conform to peoples minds. Presenting texts, and running Q&A is, has been, and always will be (untill nural interfaces of course... though thats a concept I'd hate to see come.) one of the best methods of teaching. Especially groups of like-minded individuals discussing topics, and going back and forth over concepts that seem fuzzy to them. Sure we can have the hard-line texts in the back, but whats more important is that people can relate to the issues they adopt.

As far as published papers, and official membership... what do you want us to become? An afterschool club? A political party?

We're here for educating those who have an intrest in the left, and for those who have a firm grasp on leftist ideology to debate with each other, or raise hypothetical situations. I don't need a club card, or savvy magazine to do this.

Congrats on finishing high school and going to college btw. :)
