View Full Version : How To Make The Best Coffee

The title is a bit of a con, there is, obviously, no way to make the "best coffee" its a matter of taste, so share your oppinions here.

Personaly I suggest the following,

Use a caffatiere, none of this instant malarkey. About 5 teaspoons of ground coffee and one or two teaspoons of Cinanmon to an average mugs worth of hot (not boiling) water. Leave it for about 10 mins. Pour into your mug or whatever, add 3 heaped teaspoons of sugar, and some more cinnamon, and add milk until it's what you would technically call a "gray coffee"

What type of coffee do I hear you ask? Cafe Rebelde! from the fields of Chiapas! Send me a pm if you want me to dispatch some to you. Enjoy

Also, depends on the mood but I sometimes add a majority of milk, rather than water, and add maple syrup. hmmm

Well, it's not that it's hard to get hold of, it's just complicated. Obviously the best place to get it from is the Zapatistas themselves, and an anarchist from our local group went over there for some time and brought back a fair few packets. Another possibility is to get it from a distributor in Hamburg.

Do u know where TheSquare Anarchist Social Centre is? it's in london (see my signature for the link) they have a free cafe, just go there ring the doorbell ask for some coffee, they'll invite you in and have a chat probably, though some of them can be a bit strange

Actually, im not sure we have any left. Either way, if your interested PM me, and I'll put you on a list to send some to you. But The purpose of the coffee is to raise funds for the Zapatistas, so Im affraid it's not free.

If you are using a coffee maker, use a paper filter.

Fairtrade (Co-op actually) Panama or PNG (medium roast)in a cafetiera. You have to warm the milk up first!

And if you're feeling naughty you can pour some booze (whiskey, Baileys etc) over the grounds in the cafetiera, so when the steam rises it picks up the alcohol too. It tastes a bit diferent to just pouring it in.

Hehe. Some coffee makers claim to have a built in filter. It's invariably shite, so you have to use a paper one as well.

What's a caffetiera?

Is it like a coffee machine?

It;s that glass thing with a plunger kind of thing where you put in the coffee and water, leave to rest for a short while, and then push down on the plunger.

Man I suck at explaining things.

I don't really know about making the best coffee, but has anyone ever tasted a Frappucino at Starbucks? Man they're good.

It's not fancy. You put ground coffee in the bottom with boiling or hot water, press the lid down (which has a gauze filter), and put the coffee saturated water into the mug, leaving the coffee grains behind the filter.

The longer you leave the water, the stronger it gets. And in my opinion this tastes much better than instant.

If anyone here drinks decafe im gonna kick your ass.

Best way to make a Frappucino,

Boil some milk in a saucepan, put instant coffee into it until it becomes a sort of coffee milkshake. You could add some vanilla (how much depends on how strong you want it to taste of vanilla) and add honey, instead of sugar...

Then freeze it. Or just make sure you drink it ice cold

Cocoa + a teaspoon of instant coffee is good.

Hmmm, when I said cafetiera I meant the stovetop steam thingy. You know, where you put water in the bottom, coffee in a sieve-like filter tray and plonk the whole lot on the stove. The water heats up, and when it reaches a certain pressure the steam is forced through the coffee, into a pouring jug thing. It's like espresso for people who can't afford an espresso machine, and is WAY better than those plunger things. Gross...

How are plunger things gross? I've never used one myself, but they're supposed to make lovely, rich coffee.

I always felt like the coffee tasted a bit stale, cos it was just sitting there... Steam coffee-makers give you a fresher tasting coffee, and it's a concentrated shot- although you can get that effect with a plunger I guess.

I'll never drink decaf after a paticularly embarrassing event in which I got far too drunk and in an effort to sober myself up I made about three mugs of coffee. All of which, I was told in the morning after I'd vomited and blacked out, was decaf. Always have proper coffee, just in case you get far too drunk.

I used one of those but I did it wrong and loads of coffee grain went into the mug. Oh well...

I strongly recommend getting some of this shit (http://www.whittard.co.uk/ProductDetails.aspx?pid=so22467&cid=c3041&language=en-GB) I got hold of some the other day and let me tell you it was wonderful.

Coffee doesn't actually sober you up; I know that alcohol is a depressant and coffee a stimulant but the effects do not counteract each other.

The alcohol affects the brain and makes that function slower and the coffee makes the heart beat faster. They are independent of each other, drinking coffee to sober up will make you both drunk and hyperactive, as oppossed to just plain drunk.

And also, if your coffee is plain, as in you havent added any amarretto, cinnamon, or whatever, a splash of Whisky is to some peoples taste.

I had an "irish coffee" once, didn't really like it. But then, I wasnt a very big coffee fan at the time.

fuck cinnamon
and definitely fuck milk
and who the fuck would even consider drinking instant coffee?
I would sooner move on to an alternate stimulant if I didn't have the means for making a real coffee

Black coffee with some bit of ron and a cinnamon stick (leave it on your cup to add some taste and also to mix the coffee) is good.

You can call it "Cafe Cuba" if you want.

Who is ron and are you sure he wants to be mixed in coffee? Most rons I know like to stay out of coffee.

On a related note I feel a lot like I'm on a caffiene buzz right now. Even though I havent had any cofffee. Im typing really fast and my fingers are all shaking

My old coffee maker had a mesh net filter. Coffee was not as good.

Also, where I come from, we call this caffatiere is called a French press, and it makes yummy coffee. It's also good for loose leaf tea, if that's your fancy.

I drink too much coffee. Everyone seems to agree on this (except for others who understand that there is no such thing as "too much coffee.") but I have to say, of all the different types I've had from different places and made in different ways, the best cup of coffee was made in a perculator coffee pot, over a cooking fire, high up in the mountains. Clean, fresh glacier water, slow brewing cycle and fresh mountain air. I love camping for the coffee alone.

I never really liked coffee for some reason.

Tea is much better. I think I will go and have some right now. Yay :)

eww. tea. Instant coffee is easier and quicker to mak, i love coffee but am real lazy so instant or at least plunger coffee is how i roll.

This is for all you kids who love the night and like me have an addiction with MSN and cant leave it for more than a few minutes.

1. Take about a cupfull of water and bring it to a simmer in a saucepan.
2. Add at least 3 teaspoons of coffee and stir. You may notice that the coffee is slightly thicker than usual.
3. Add a bit of vanilla essence to it.
4. Pour into shoe..I mean cup, and drink.

Yes I know this seems like a basic coffee recipe just with a saucepan, but because of the way its made it tastes much nicer and has a thicker taste I find. This is for those people who can stand having a good few teaspoons of instant in a cup.

Perosonal coffee: Cafe Direct apparently
