Confederates got Battle Hymm of the Republic, and Dixie, Gospel got Oh Happy day and other songs. Communism needs a god damn hymm for the soldiers to sing out on the battlefield.

Communism...not...Anarchism.

Although those are still good tunes.

While a lot of those tunes are specifically syndicalist I don't see how they aren't "communist." Take a las barricadas for example, it's an antifascist song. I don't see how its not compatable.

Solidarity Forever... though that would probably be Anarcho-Syndicalism. How about Let the Red Flag Fly?

Kill the protester by Anti-Flag or Tip the Scales or First drop by Rise Against. Even just a chant from Guerrilla Radio. EVERYONE IN CHORUS: "IT'S GOTTA START SOMEWHERE/ IT'S GOTTA START SOMEHOW/ WHAT BETTER PLACE THAN HERE/ WHAT BETTER TIME THAN NOW?!!!!"

The Internationale

Arise, ye workers from your slumber,
Arise, ye prisoners of want.
For reason in revolt now thunders,
and at last ends the age of cant!
Away with all your superstitions,
Servile masses, arise, arise!
We'll change henceforth the old tradition,
And spurn the dust to win the prize!

So comrades, come rally,
And the last fight let us face.
The Internationale,
Unites the human race.
So comrades, come rally,
And the last fight let us face.
The Internationale,
Unites the human race.

No more deluded by reaction,
On tyrants only we'll make war!
The soldiers too will take strike action,
They'll break ranks and fight no more!
And if those cannibals keep trying,
To sacrifice us to their pride,
They soon shall hear the bullets flying,
We'll shoot the generals on our own side.

So comrades, come rally,
And the last fight let us face.
The Internationale,
Unites the human race.
So comrades, come rally,
And the last fight let us face.
The Internationale,
Unites the human race.

No saviour from on high delivers,
No faith have we in prince or peer.
Our own right hand the chains must shiver,
Chains of hatred, greed and fear.
E'er the thieves will out with their booty,
And to all give a happier lot.
Each at his forge must do their duty,
And we'll strike the iron while it's hot.

So comrades, come rally,
And the last fight let us face.
The Internationale,
Unites the human race.
So comrades, come rally,
And the last fight let us face.
The Internationale,
Unites the human race.

No one is going to be at a protest and start chanting The Internationale. I mean, come on. We should all chant 'el pueblo, unido, jamás será vencido'

Is that "The people united will never be defeated"? No sarcasm please.

What about this version. Anybody know the history between the two?

Arise, ye prisoners of starvation!
Arise, ye wretched of the earth!
For justice thunders condemnation,
A better world's in birth.
No more, tradition's chains shall bind us,
Arise ye slaves, no more in thrall.
The earth shall rise on new foundations,
We have been naught, we shall be all.
'Tis the final conflict,
Let us stand in our place.
The international working class
Shall be the human race!
'Tis the final conflict,
Let us stand in our place.
The international working class
Shall be the human race!

We want no condescending saviors
To rule us from a judgment hall.
We workers ask not for their favors,
We must consult for all.
To make the thief disgorge his booty,
To free the spirit from the cell,
We must ourselves decide our duty,
We must decide and do it well!
'This the final conflict,
Let us stand in our place!.
The international working class
Shall be the human race!
'Tis the final conflict,
Let us stand in our place.
The international working class
Shall be the human race!

Revolution is the Solution: The first one is the "archaic" Internationale from the UK, as opposed to Billy Bragg's crap bastardised version. The latter is, I think, the North America version (I assume it was both USA and Canada?).

Correct. Billy Bragg's goes like this:

Stand up, all victims of oppression
For the tyrants fear your might
Don't cling so hard to your possessions
For you have nothing, if you have no rights
Let racist ignorance be ended
For respect makes the empires fall
Freedom is merely privilege extended
Unless enjoyed by one and all.

CHORUS:
So come brothers and sisters
For the struggle carries on
The Internationale
Unites the world in song
So comrades come rally
For this is the time and place
The international ideal
Unites the human race

Let no one build walls to divide us
Walls of hatred nor walls of stone
Come greet the dawn and stand beside us
We'll live together or we'll die alone
In our world poisoned by exploitation
Those who have taken, now they must give
And end the vanity of nations
We've one but one Earth on which to live

CHORUS

And so begins the final drama
In the streets and in the fields
We stand unbowed before their armour
We defy their guns and shields
When we fight, provoked by their aggression
Let us be inspired by life and love
For though they offer us concessions
Change will not come from above.

CHORUS

Everytime I listen "A las barricadas" my blood boils and I become very nostalgic for our fallen spanish republican comrades. By the way, at This page (http://www.marxists.org/subject/art/music/index.htm) you will find a lot of communist/revolutionary songs in many languages.

Billy Bragg is sectarian asshole and a terrible musician with a horrid voice, he shouldn't be singing let alone rewriting the internationale.

-----------------------

Anyways, apart from the Internationale and The Red Flag, the Soviet Hymn in all of its versions is quite good, and the music is really very intense.

In terms of a 'hymm for the soldiers to sing out on the battlefield', i think the best is Svyaschennaya Voyna, an anti-fascist WWII era song.

Red Flag is by far the best "battle hymm." However we need to ditch the old tune, it blows. Check out Billy Braggs tune for it, it's actually the original. The one they have now is "Oh Christmas Tree", how dumb!

Although we need something with a little more "umph" to it. I have no suggestions.
