Hi everyone! I guess I'm not technically new, I've been registered with the site for about 11 months now, but I've just started to become active. I'm actually pretty new to leftist thought, I had been a capitalist as recent as a year and a half ago. I was also extremely patriotic and pro-US at the time as well. I've since had a deconversion, one which I think is perhaps much more practical and important than my deconversion from Christianity at the age of 12.
I guess the reason I wasn't active a year ago was that I found some communists in my community to be somewhat religious acting, and it turned me off from the ideas. There were some fliers going around the city that Bob Avakian would be coming to speak, which I thought might be sort of cool. I went to the local revolutionary bookstore and the workers seemed so excited, and I thought that perhaps that was justified. I then said "so where is Bob Avakian coming to speak?" and they looked at me like I was crazy and said "what? no, someone is coming to talk about him and his ideas. The way she said it reminded me of a Christian telling me about Jesus, and really kinda freaked me out.
But I'm over that and pretty much through my transitional period from capitalism. Anarchist idea resonate pretty strongly with me, and I'm currently doing some research into Parecon (Participatory Economics) and seeing whether this economic system seems like a workable model that I could explain and sell to my peers.
Nice to be here, and look forward to the discussions.
