This is something i picked up in a history course,i haven't tried it yet myself but i might give it a go soon. This would be for those camping or on the move

ok you need this stuff-

-a shovel
-a what pot or what ever your using to cook
-wood or those bbq instant light sticks
-a sheet of non flammable material
-food

Ok first find a place where your can dig a hole, your front garden is not recommended. Now dig a hole thats deep enough to fit your pot in but a little bigger so it can be placed in an taken out easily, place the stuff your lighting at the bottom of the hole(break it up if you need to) be careful because god knows what is in the soil, when lighting remember:your not having a bonfire try and keep the flame under control.Ok you put you pot of whatever into the hole and put the non flammable material over it and cover it with the soil you unearthed when digging the hole. This keeps the heat in and also allows you to lift it up to check the cooking. If you don't have material then leave it open or just try cooking some other way  The good thing about this is that when your done you can bury the hole.not to sure about what your using to burn, try and find some non smoking stuff they sell.

Ps.In ye olde days this was a method for cooking, not a well known one i just found this off stuff i saw in history and put it together, heck it still might be used today.Im not the overlord of survival lessons but i do think its possible to use this,if anyone has tried it/already knows about it pm me,i want to get other peoples views so i can get enough info to try it myself.Peace.

Why not just make a fire and put the pot on it or stick

you might be interested in a post somewhere in this section about cooking with an old tire.

I roasted a chicken in an 'oven' made of sticks lashed together wrapped in tin foil, put the chicken in and point the open end towards a fire. It was pretty tastey.

When I was a kid we had a property. In the very back corner we had a chicken pen. All the chickens died so my brothers and I used it as a hide out. One day we took my mum's good frying pan, found some widgedy grubs under a log, made a little ditch and cooked them. It was most interesting.
