I will curb stomp the next person on my MSN list who writes "It's better to burn out than to fade away" in his name. I HATE Kurt Cobain.

Twas, but kids want to "tribute" Kurt Cobain because it was the last line of his suicide note. Personally, I hate that fucker. He get's too much god damn credit (Kurt, not Neil Young). The only reason why people still listen to him, is because he painted his walls with his brains (smartest thing he ever did). GOD DAMN, he is a disgrace to music.

That being said, Pearl Jam rock.

Nah, I was just saying that to him because he made several threads like this one before. That is, threads only containing links to videos.

I don't really know what Grunge music is, I heard Nirvana is Grunge, but it just sounds like normal rock to me. I have limited knowledge of music genres and what defines them.

Dude... Kurt had some children and a wife. Reguardless of the circumstances, blowing his head off was the most cowardly thing to do.

Kurt Cobain is probably one of my favourite singer/songwriters and guitarists (I know he couldnt play well but what he played, along with distortion, fucking amazing). Grunge is great and great to play, allows me to get my frustration and anger out into the open.

Kurt didn'y play well on purpose. He would use fucked-up guitars, fucked up speakers and play in a fucked-up way. That was the grunge style. Now you take his music and play it well on nice guitars and a good system and it'll sound even better. Just like his fucked-up clothes. You put some nice threads on him and he'll look neat. Even so, he knew how to pick out second-hand clothes. The man had style. He could have made millions with his own fashion sense but he wasn't interested in money. He was interested in music (and drugs I know, I know).

Yeah actually. What exactly is grunge? Are there any bands still out at the moment who are classified as grunge. Man i wish i was old enough to fully appreciate Kurt

Pearl Jam and Mudhoney are still making music and touring. The majority of grunge bands died out in the late 90's though, with the breaking up bands such as Nirvana, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, etc.

I like Nirvana a lot despite Cobain's god-like status among preteen idiots. Their music is fun to listen to (although not all the time).

If I had to define grunge I would probably say something along the lines of:
Heavily distorted (dirty sounding) guitar, heavy drums. lazy yet angry vocals. lyrics tend to be negative, picking faults with self/others/world.
think the way of playing guitar defines it most, far from the likes of progressive rock and such. its a type of music which you dont need to be an excellent guitarist to play, its more about expressing how you feel.

², the speed and energy i get when playing some grunge is awesome, put my amp on max and forget about everything. And my clothing could be described as "grunge leaning" like, the flanel shirst (love those), worn out pants, you know ...

So you want the grunge style? Honestly just grab jeans and an old Tee and grab the skateboard, fucking hammer yourself, til the jeans rip and the shirt is worse for wear and TA-DA! it's about not giving a fuck and that is the best way to show it. Don't buy the pre ripped stuff....Do it yourself!

i was thinking more the lumberjack style jackets or even some crappy cardigans, my area seems to have a significant lack of these.
