View Full Version : Two questions

Alright i have two questions,
1. It is probably impossible to predict, but do you think that the revolution will happen in our life time. I know we're all different ages, but I mean within like maybe 50 -70 years or something. (i've read on this site 2 predicitions for it to happen in 2007, but i don't know why they wrote that)
2. And since I think most of you don't advocate reforming the system at all and only want to abolish it, will society continue to get worse, until the revolution?

1. It won't happen in 2007. Whoever said that is smoking crack. I have no prediction, but I could see the possibility of it occuring any time from 25 years onward. I could also see it not happening for 100+ years. It all depends on many factors.
2. I'm curious about #2 myself. I have not fully formed a judgment on the issue, but it does seem like a lot of people advocate "let it get worse so people are mad enough to revolt" approaches. Society seems to be getting better within the capitalist framework (for first world countries), but I imagine things are getting worse in other parts of the world. The wealthy elite is slowly getting smaller, but I think the West has a lot of rising up to do before it starts to see more of the affects of its rampant capitalism.

I read somewhere that Lenin didn't think the october revolution would happen in his life time.. So who knows when the next one will be.
As for the second question. I kind of take the approach Dooga mentioned, "let it get worse so people are mad enough to revolt." Though I don't know when it will be so bad that people will realize whats happening around them. But it will continue to get worse. ;)

I can honestly say that if the Revolution does not happen in my Lifetime, It will not happen. But by no means is the revolution inevitable. No, I do not view myself as some reincarnation of Lenin. But as was discussed in another thread, Capitalism, as a system that places profit above Humanity, cannot continue indefinetely. Our planet is being raped of its natural resources and it increasingly under threat due to the reckless nature of the environmental exploitation that is occurring. Furthermore, the Iraq war has shown that Capitalism is reaching such a stage where Nation States are turning to Imperialism (the military domination of other countries) in order to control Natural resources and markets; thereby preserving profitability. These two factors means that if we continue using the current system; we are headed for an environmental and humanitarian meltdown. Honestly. People talk of the death of socialism; but for me, there is no time like now for a socialist revolution. I gave this quote a few days ago, but I will give it again:
repeat compañeros, compañeras; I think that time is short, I think that there is not much space to maneuver in, I think that there will be nothing beyond the 21st century if we do not change the world’s course in this 21st century, I think that the phrase of Karl Marx is today more valid and dramatic than ever, there is hardly any time left: socialism or death, but real death— of the entire human species and of life on planet earth, because capitalism is destroying the planet, capitalism is destroying life on earth, capitalism is destroying the ecological equilibrium of the planet. The poles are melting, the seas are heating up, the continents are sinking, forests and jungles are being destroyed, rivers and lakes are drying up; the destructive development of the capitalist model is putting an end to life on earth. I believe it’s now or never.
Stirring Stuff.

Why the hell not? what if you get hit by a car when you next leave the building? holy fuck we better get the guy somewhere safe!! If he dies the revolution becomes impossible!
But really if it doesn't happen in your life time why would you care, you'd be dead. As long as you fight toward revolutionary ends there's little more you can do.

Tell me about it, we all know that the revolution is only ever doomed if Kim Jong Ill dies...

I don't think change is as far off as some of you are suggesting. 100 years is a long time people...think of what has happened in the last century. Two world wars, a stand off between capitalism and communism, revolutions, coups, occupations, rapid technological advances, end of apartheid, natural disasters, end of colonialism (to an extent), etc.
I think an overall revolutionary attitude is growing if anything. Look at Latin America and the Leftism that is gaining a more powerful foothold every day. What about all the protests and demonstrations, the May Day boycotts, the increase of discontent among the youth? All we have to do is keep doing what we're doing and continue spreading our beliefs and we're already moving forward.
I believe that change isn't as far away as you may think. I believe it's in first stages.

LoL I do not literally mean in the time that I am alive. But yes, you should keep me safe anyways. The reason why I think that the revolution must happen in say the next 70 years (the time I expect to be alive) is because if Capitalism continues beyond that period, the environmental damage that has been imposed upon our planet as a result of the unsrestrained pursuit of profit will be so terrible that our planet may be unable to support the Human race any longer, despite any changes we make beyond that point, and so fighting for a revolution will be pointless, as it will be too late.

Dude, I supported North korea in just one thread! And yes, I do admire Kim Il sung and find this political ideas very interesting. Note: Kim il sung, not jong il.
But really if it doesn't happen in your life time why would you care, you'd be dead
I think that is an appalling attitude to take comrade! Do you mean to tell me you are only a socialist because you would personally benefit from the revolution? if that is the case, are you saying you would be unwilling to lay down your life to establish a socialist society and emancipate the working class? I was under the impression that Socialists were dedicated to the revolution because they wanted to achieve a better world for mankind, not because they would have it better under a different system.
"I do not care if I fall, so long as someone picks up my rifle and keeps shooting" - Che Guevara
The most important thing we can do to achieve a revolution is just to believe, and never give up our ideas, and to remain dedicated to Socialism forever. I think jello raises a good point - if someone had told the average person in 1900 that Lenin would forge the world's first Socialist-inspired Revolution and leave a legacy for all the world to see, that person would have been met with disbelief.

the revolution wont just sprout out of the ground we have to make it happen, it could happen next week if we made it, we need organizing and supplies, say for instance in amerika if we do wht the irish did in 1916, sieze government headquarters such as post offices, police stations and also occupy grocery stores, hospitals and try to get a hold of armory's (although the national guard does good to protect those) and if we did this nation wide the vuoala it has begun, all we need is supporters and supplies once the revolution starts more and more people will join, and since no other nation has really occupied the US the local police and maybe military, if true to their word of defending the people, will hopefully join up too.
