'Kill Iraqis marine song' probe
By Adam Brookes
BBC News, Washington
The US marines have launched a probe into a video posted on the internet that apparently shows a marine singing about the killing of Iraqi civilians.
A spokesman described the video as "clearly inappropriate" and contrary to the standards of the marines.
The marines said they did not know immediately if the film was genuine.
The lyrics caught on video refer to the shooting of Iraqi civilians, especially children, by insurgents and then how a marine responds, opening fire himself.
"As the bullets began to fly, the blood sprayed from between her eyes, and then I laughed maniacally"
Song lyrics
Haditha: Cover-up?
The video also refers to Iraqis as "hajis" - a term usually applied to someone who has completed the pilgrimage to Mecca, but commonly used as a term of insult against Iraqis among US troops.
The marines are currently embroiled in controversy over the deaths of 24 civilians in the Iraqi town of Haditha last year.
'Inappropriate'
The four-minute song includes graphic descriptions of killings, real or imagined.
Dressed in a green T-shirt and military style trousers and boots, a man sings: "I grabbed her little sister and put her in front of me.
"As the bullets began to fly, the blood sprayed from between her eyes, and then I laughed maniacally."
Marines spokesman Lt Col Scott Fazekas said: "The video that was posted anonymously is clearly inappropriate and contrary to the high standards expected of all marines."
Asked whether the singer was a real marine, Mr Fazekas said it was impossible to know: "I can't tell. In looking at it, it could be anywhere, it could be anybody."
No decision had been made on whether to launch a formal investigation, the spokesman said

Yes, and I suppose the official marine marching diddies about how blood makes the grass grows green is "appropriate".

Yeah, it's pretty disgusting and shows that some people in the armed forces actually like this stuff or at least think it's funny. If they catch the guy, they should actually do something rather than let him off with a warning because it was a "joke".

This is just another example of the abuses that the U.S. soldiers are inflicting on the Iraqi people. The United States empire has crossed the line too many times and has no respect for human rights. They should investigate the video and find out who that man is so they can punish him and put him in jail just like Pvt. English for the abuses in Abu Ghraib. The U.S. troops must leave Iraq and let Iraq rule itself. They must close Abu Ghraib prison and the concentration camp at Guantanamo Bay.

He should be punished for bad taste?
The grunts and foot soldiers did not start this war, and they'd probably push and shove to be the first on a plane heading home if the war ended tomorrow. So what if they are entertained by gallows humor because it allows them to deal the stresses of combat and of being away from their friends and family. It's in poor taste, but it's only a symptom of the dehumanizing effect that war has on all people, not a cause.
When you call for the punishment of these ignorant nobodies, you're playing right into the hands of the real criminals who sent them to Iraq. Bush and his cronies want you to believe the whole ridiculous "bad apple" defense, and it's all bullshit. Lynndie England was a scapegoat. Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, and the rest of the regime's thugs are the real culprits.

What a sick, contemptible excuse for a human being. And these are supposed to be the representatives of the U.S.A. to the Middle East/Iraq.
Maybe they are but in a negative way. They'll give a medal for this stunt.

It is disgusting HOWEVER he should have the freedom of speech to sing it despite that. How can we on the one hand be for freedom of speech and on the other be for punishing him? :( Freedom of speech covers even those things we do not want to hear.
Now what happened at Haditha SHOULD be investigated.

As disgusting as this might sound, this is a rather common occurrence in Iraq
Any video on google from the Iraq conflict, has this type of garbage
I've seen videos were u hear American GI's singing and insulting Iraqi's while shooting at them
http://video.google.com/videosearch?q=Iraq+war
This isn't new, the only difference is that some liberal journalist must of leaked this out and now the liberals in the US wan't some sort of apology and discipline for these savages
Happened in Nam and it'll happen now
Thats why one less US soldier is one less day for the US occupation in Iraq, however bleak or crass that might sound
