What's Eric Clapton doing on a left wing forum?
Good point, and what's his son doing 6 feet under while scumbags like him still live.

Is there something that I don't know about Eric Clapton?
Is there something he's said or done that is explicitely anti-leftist?
Why are you guys so mad/surprised?
*Knows nothing about Claptons life*

He made a racist statement once, something like Engand would be an African colony if his fans didn't vote Conservative. 'Rock Against Racism' (The Clash, X-Ray Spex, etc) was founded partially because of that.

Just got done looking it up on wikipedia but thanks for the help..... :)
Wow......thats actually a huge shock to me, as he basically has stolen more black music then any white artist in history. And I'm not talking in a pure "rock comes from jazz and blues" way, I mean, one of Creams most famous songs "Crossroads" is actually a cover of Robert Johnsons song of the same title.......Robert Johnson being a black delta-blues guitarist.
What a surprise, I'm shocked that I never knew this before now.... :(
Not Conservative, he told his fans to vote BNP!!!

I, too, did not know anything about Eric Clapton's life. If people would scrutinize the life of any artist they would find substantial reason to stop supporting that artist. Look at that movie Birth of a Nation. It is a notoriously racist film, depicting the KKK as the saviors of the Southern United States. Notwithstanding, there is a virtual unanimous consensus among critics that it is one hell of a film
(from a strictly artistic perspective). What about that outstanding poet Ezra Pound?---he was a demonic anti-semite supporter of fascism/Mussolini (his friend T. S. Eliot too). The guys in Alice in Chains are into hardcore pornography, (a medium that exploits women) etc. etc.
But let us analyze Clapton's controversial statement:
In 1976, Clapton was the centre of controversy and accusations of racism, when he spoke out against increasing immigration during a concert in Birmingham. He commented that England had "...become overcrowded...that England sells itself as the "land of milk and honey" only to turn around and stick its invited immigrants into low paying labour jobs, living in substandard conditions..." and implored the crowd to vote for Enoch Powell to prevent Britain from becoming "a black colony".[citation needed] These comments (along with equally controversial remarks and actions by David Bowie) led to the creation of the Rock Against Racism movement in the UK.
There is no doubt that Clapton could have done a better job expessing himself. This statement is analogous to what Ralph Nader said during his presidential campaign. That immigrants don't want to come to the U.S.; only that the U.S. supports dictators and oligarchs abroad and immigrants come here to make a better life for themselves. When they get here they find out it is not the promised land but they have to struggle for respect and dignity.
N.B. I hope no one will misconstrue my comments think that I support racism or racists

Eric Clapton may be a complete prick, but the stuff he did with Cream is amazing.
Cream is among my top-20 favorite recording artists ever.
Some of his post-Cream work is pretty good too. The thing w/ BB King had some phenemonal tracks. Some of his stuff may be regarded today as cookie-cutter 70s guitar rock, but damn it, some of that shit is good.

:o
But I love Cream!
I reminded of a song by Cream that went like "I support the left....but I'm leaning..leaning to the right..."
