This is a shout-out to all comrades living in Southern Ontario.

By now I'm sure everyone (living in Ontario) has heard about the conflict between the 6 Nations peoples and the Provincial and Federal governments over a planned move to process Native land into yet another stupid thing.

Natives have suffered enough hardships and humiliation, haven't they? If their lands aren't being sold at gunpoint, their children are being taken from them and mobs of angry protesters are advocating their violent death.

Nobody can deny the fact that we non-Natives are immigrants to this land. For 200 years we have slowly annexed all Native land, and "leased" the remaining Natives small plots of reservation so that they will not join greater society. For 200 years promise after promise has been broken and although millions agree that life in unfair for Natives, absolutely nothing is done about it.

We should all be inspired by the brave Mohawks at Oka. Their actions in 1990 -- their ability to stand up against first the Quebec Government, and then the Federal Government, and force them to respect their right to the Land on which they have lived for hundreds of years, is truely an amazing feet. A handful of Mohawks, clad in camoflage fatigues and bandanas, managed to stand strong against the unimaginably overwhelming force of the Canadian military.

So please, if you live in southern Ontario, Canada, head to Caledonia and show your support for Native self-determination and self-defense. These people deserve more than they have been given.

I strongly support what they're doing and I'm so proud of my native heritage when I read about what's going in Caledonia. They don't deserve the shit they've gone through since the "settlement" of north america, and south america for that matter. And now they want to build a subdivision on native land? When will this goddamned pointless expansion end?

I wish I could be there. David Ahenakew hasn't been doing much in support, has he? He's a real dink face if I do say so myself, he'd probably ***** about the Jews being a disease anyway (holy mother of jesus). They need a real leader and representitive. You can't be a visible minority and be racist toward other minorities.....lol. That's way too, i don't know, ironic.

edit: I guess the government just bought up the disputed land..... handing it over perhaps? One can only hope.

By the way, when is this? Because I'll be back in Ontario in about two weeks so dates would be appreciated. I've got a busy schedule for the summer and probably won't be able to participate but just in case...

I don't think I quite understand what you mean...... It's been happening for a while now. :blink:

It's not a protest that you can "participate" in. It's about a people struggling to hang on to sacred land that developers want to turn into a frickin subdivision <_<

Oh ok, sorry about that. I was under the impression that it was a protest organized for a specific date.

Could you find me an email address or somebody I could contact? If I can't be present I will at least voice my opinion.

No, it's not a "protest". But I think a protest would be a great idea. It'll show that non-natives, or even non-Six Nations natives care about what's going on.

but it's not a protest, or an event eh :P

It would be like showing up in chiapas to voice your opinion. It doesn't quite work that way. heh, it's not of the same magnitude, but it's kind of a big deal for our standards. This is like the biggest thing going on in canada right now. :P I think that Ernest meant to join in on the fight in a show of solidarity.

Yep. It isn't just a protest or a demonstration. It is the focal point of the Natives that live in and around Caledonia, standing up for their rights as human beings and as the First Peoples.
