I found an article about how a lot of the white supremacists are gathering at a civil war battleground, but for some reoson they have a picture of a man doing a nazi salute but the caption under it says he is a socialist. It didn't make much sense to me.

Yeah but not a true socialist. Hitler used socialism to appeal to the people.
Nazis believed:
1) in a strong centrally governed state
2) that democracy was a destabilizing force
3) that great nations stem from military power and,
4) maintained order
Also key elements of the Nazi ideology were:
1) racism, needless to say
2) homophobia
3) sexism
4) social darwinism
5) eugenics
6) limited religious freedom
and very importantly, 7) anti marxism, anti communism & anti Bolshevism
All of these seem HIGHLY contradictory to socialism, atleast the way I see it.

the caption does not label him as a socialist. it labels him as a member of the National Socialist Movement, the largest neo-nazi party in the usa. it is a legitimate way to caption the picture, even tho we might wish nazis didnt use words like socialist or revolution

National socialist =/= socialist.
Socialists are nice, nazi's are not.

I've just read the quoted article,
The first paragraph is interesting,
"About 30 people, some in white robes and others in the military-style clothing and swastika armbands of the National Socialist Movement of America, stood next to a farmhouse on the battlefield. Some delivered speeches attacking immigrants, blacks and other minority groups"
Seems to me like a political minority group in silly clothes, attacking ethnic minority groups.
As the phrase says 'give them a uniform and they think they're Hitler'
As for the 'socialism' in National Socialism. Never get 'hung up' on words, as long as you know what it means to you, that's all that matters. :hammer:
