Why not just download the whole movie on a torrent? Or better yet, read the book because it's much better.

Only a malenky bit of the old ultra violence, huh? ;)

Great book AND movie. Except the movie didn't have the last chapter. <_<

True! But without it it didn't seem like it ended.

The last chapter is imperative.

Without it, the book is nearly fucking pointless.

I kinda like it when books don't 'end' in the tradition sense, leaves a lot up to me, or any reader.

It is a story that takes place in the future. Well, this 15 year-old gang member who speaks in a new type of slang commits terrible anti-social acts---wanton beatings, theft, rape etc. Then the state gets a-hold of him and tries to change his behavior.
Won't give anymore in order not to spoil it for you. So yeah these kids talk in slang and you can decipher the slang here (Don't let the slang intimidate you. It's an easy read. I read it under a week):

The slang is mostly derived from Russian.

If you know any Russian it makes the book a hundred times easier.

True but you can figure it out despite from context clues. ;)

A clockwork orange is such a exellent film. The line i like best is "let's have a bit of the old ultraviolence. That line is just cool.

Bah, what's so special about a "dark" ending? If I want hopelessnes I would read Orwell. Those types of endings are for cynics not socialists....

See, unlike Orwell Burgess actually believed humans could be good. He was a social-democratic type and a Catholic. He didn't want the movie made because he didn't want to have pornographic images.

That said, the last chapter shows that there is an inbetween. The whole argument is Alex's ability to chose, and only then can one really be good. It's like Christians who try to scare people to believe in god by saying you will go to hell. Well, you only believe because you don't want your soul to burn in hell. People don't rape or murder in some cases because they fear the consequences, not because they find it morally reprehensable or that they don't want to hurt others. It's a very moral book, but also makes you think about why laws and consequences are in place in society. It begs the question: how far do we go to change, cure or reform individuals and can it ever TRULY be done?

So what's it going to be, eh?

How far DO we go to 'change' people.

Plus, I've read the book a few times now but I still can't figure out what kind of government it is. Socialist? Social-Democratic? What?
