Though I wholeheartedly support Israel and feel that it should defend itself at all costs, one must recognize that the Zionist movement began in a much different time than we now live in and was actually started in the late 1800s, far before the Holocaust which simply got more people to support the Zionists cause. In those times, a Jewish State was necessary for the safety of the millions of Jews worldwide, especially in Europe. Today, the only Jews that are significantly threatened by their government are those in Ethiopia whom Israel has been desperately trying to relocate to Israel.

Today, however, governments are not the way they were in the first half of the 20th century and we have institution (U.N.) that work to prevent ethnic and religious descrimination by political regimes. Today, Zionists are simply those who support Israel's continued existence. While it would not be necessary to create Israel or a state like it (such as a Kurdish country). it would be both impractical and illogical to dismantle Israel.

If Israel controls lands from which people come to commit acts of terrorism against Israel, wouldn't there be more attacks if Israel leaves? Also, Israel has never gone into another countries business. It has simply tried to promote its own interests on the international stage. Israel has never invaded another country and all of the wars it has fought with Middle Eastern nations have been a result of the army(ies) of one the Arab nations crossing Israeli borders.

Also, why shouldn't Israel support war in Iraq? Israel, like Canada, supports the war with Iraq but will not commit troops, supplies, or allow the U.S. to use its air bases or its air space. After the damage Iraqi SCUDS did to Israel during the Gulf War, Israel has every reason to want Saddam Hussein out of Iraq.

The 12 Palestinians killed yesterday were killed when Israeli troops went in to capture a prominent terrorist leader. When they came to his house, they were fired upon by several Palestinian civilians and had no choice but to shoot back. Other Palestinians were killed/injured simply because they were stupid enough to stand and watch this affair going on. If the Israeli army is bringing in troops and tanks to capture a terrorist and they exchange gunfire with some civilians, you would think other people would have the common sense to run to safety. :angry:

As for Israeli settlements in "Palestinian lands", if you are talking about settlements prior to 1948, then the lands belong to Great Britain, not the Palestinians. If you are referring to the West Bank and Gaza, then you should know that Israeli settlements in those areas did not start until after Israel acquired those territories following the Six-Day War in 1967

When you say that Palestine "belonged to Great Britain", in what way does this kind of imperial idiocy demonstrate your intelligence...or your "leftism"?

When you say that "Israel has never invaded another country", does that mean that "Lebanon doesn't count as a country" or does it also mean that Egypt "doesn't count as a country" as well? (1956, remember?)

And how about that phrase "when Israel acquired those lands after the Six-Day War"? As if they went down to the mall and bought the west bank and the Gaza strip. Afterwards, why shouldn't they "settle" their new "acquisitions", right?

There are many works on the Middle East that were not written under the auspices of the U.S. State Department or the Israeli Government...you need to read some...badly!

And unlike you, I can understand that what those people were writing was simply their opinions of Zionism where as you (Nazi) want to make it personal. Also, although I may share some opinions with people who are Zionists, it does not make me one. For example, both capitalism and communism can be democratic forms of government, that does not make them the same!

Capitalism cannot be democratic however. Class society is innately undemocratic, socialism is democratic.
