I have not updated myself on the happening in Mexico (mainly Mexico City, and south of the city) as of late. I have tried to read some of the other threads for info, but they seem to have gotten away from the earlier riots, protest, and killings be performed by the Mexican govt.
Does anybody have any updates on what is going on with the up-coming election, or what has been happening in the farming communities around Mexico City?
I hope that things have not just gone ignored. Too many people were seeing the wrong end of the rifle, not that long ago. Any updates or links would be appreciated.
Thanks

Just yesterday Alex Benhumea, a student injured in the repression last month, died in hospital.
I highly recommend Narco News (http://www.narconews.com/) as a portal of information regarding the situation in Mexico and lots of other places "down South".

Thanks for the link and the info. I feel things in this area are going to change soon, and it is going to have an effect that people are not expecting.

I am also of this opinion. A lot of people on this forum look very cynically towards the situation in Mexico without a real understanding of just how revolutionary it could get in a very short time span.

The up-coming elections will be very telling,. As far as how people react. People are just fed up and are now organizing quickly. Look back at the protest march that happened earlier this year (March -Feb. maybe. can't remember..) There was a few HUNDRED thousand people marching through downtown Mexico City.. With the raids on farming communities, and the violence in the border towns escalating,.. I could see the are ripe for a movement.

Yes I would hope that there was some real organising and building going on, because after events in Bolivia in 2005, and Mexico earleir this year it is claer that without a revolutionary organisation to absord the momentum of hte masses and to create the backbone of any spontaneous rebellion, the masses will peater away quickly.

Sadly, the PRD is more likely to turn into PRI2 than into a genuine movement of the Mexican people.

Explain why and how Mexico could become revolutionary in a short time span

It's really not too different than what's happening elsewhere in South America, though of course each region has its own peculiarities and obstacles.
I dunno it's not really that hard to understand, people are just really pissed and sick of being poor and chronically malnourished and more and more are literally taking up the idea that it's "better to die on your feet than live on your knees".
And I'm sorry I should not have said "become revolutionary", I should have said "enter into a period of massive instability caused by popular insurrection".
Depending on how much organizing has been done, this could be "the revolution" or it could just be some riots and a massacre. <_<
