We passed out these pamphlets we made at my school, here's the text in case you feel like reading it. we just wanted to inform people what May Day was all about. They didn't seen too interested, though.
The first of May, or May Day, is the International Labor Day. On this day, we celebrate the advances won by the struggles of workers, laborers, and unionists to call for a more just and democratic society. The fact that workers had it tough in the early years of the American Industrial Revolution is no secret. Sixteen-hour workdays in dangerous conditions, child labor, exploitation, and accidents were common. Unfortunately, the forces who changed all this are left ambiguous in the revision of history, and the radical labor movement simply isn't discussed. We're supposed to think that all these problems solved themselves like magic, but they didn't. These changes were made possible by the struggles of the workers to create a better world and fight for economic justice. We need to remember and honor that.
This cause is especially important now, in these times of war, corporate scandal, and increasing attacks on the rights of workers within this country. The past years have exposed for all to see the uglyest side of the system. We have witnessed corporate scandals in which CEOs are able to steal millions of dollars from their shareholders and workers and escape nearly unpunished, while we have seen thousands of immigrants detained indefinately without any charge, without access to their constitutional right to an attorney, under the USA PATRIOT act.
We have seen tax cuts for the wealthy while much needed social, educational, and social programs have had their budgets slashed. While millions of dollars are spent are spent in an aggressive and imperialist assualt upon the people of Iraq, unemployment rates continue to rise, and corporations intensify their assaults upon those gains won by labor. The crisis is there to see. The question is, what can we do?
On this May Day, we call upon the people of America to unite in the struggle for social justice and against war. The mass mobilizations already existing to oppose American involvement in Iraq must be brought to bare against the the economic and political system that has waged the war. We must all work to create alternative, community controled institutions, democratic alternative paths to those layed out by the few in power.
In unity with our comrades around the globe, in solidarity with all oppressed peoples, and with the dream of a better future, we stand today and say: Another world is possible. The strength of the international working class has overcome injustice, war, and oppression, and will do so again!

I have been reading about May Day marches since this afternoon until tonight and have read accounts of such marches in many countries and many parts of the world. However, I have seen nothing of this in the US. I guess there were no May Day marches in the US? I know that nothing was going on here in Chicago – when I was on my way out of work I noticed that there were no people congregating at 5:00 p.m. at Federal Plaza, where all such marches and/or demonstrations here would originate. I thought that may have been because we have been having severe thunderstorms off and on since Wednesday April 30th and during the day Thursday May 1st – but at 5:00 p.m. it was not raining, although it did start drizzling again by about 6:00. Still, there were no accounts in any news coverage I have read so far about any such marches in the US. I guess there weren’t any here. Were there?
Happy May Day – even though it is actually May 2nd now here too.
