"independent, living by one's own laws,"
Autonomism is a revision of Marxism upon the principle, 'fight the man by becoming your own man', i.e. squats, strikes, dropping out, etc.

Autonomy is also used to imply self-sufficiency, though this is rarely the case in practice. Usually it just refers to independence, generally within a larger movement to which the "autonomous" part is somehow affiliated. For instance an "autonomous anarchist collective" still sees itself as part of the "anarchist movement", but probably doesn't belong to any larger group or federation.
AUTONOME (http://www.autonome.org/en/) is a specific project developed by either autonomist Marxists or syndicalists, possibly some combination of the two. My best guess is that it was an attempt to make a "workerist" CrimethInc. or maybe just an "East Coast" CrimethInc. Either way, it seems a dead project now.
Sorry if the above had nothing to do with the topic, I just figured that's what you were asking about based on the spelling.
