Secret US plans for Iraq's oil
The Bush administration made plans for war and for Iraq's oil before the 9/11 attacks, sparking a policy battle between neo-cons and Big Oil, BBC's Newsnight has revealed.

You may find on internet forums that conservatives dispute that the invasion of Iraq was due to the desire to steal Iraqi oil.
Yes, that is what the U.S. has always intended to do.

Thats something of a known fact...they also put Nazi party members in power of goverance in Dresden and other cities right after the war...all being made up by corporatist fascists...not exactly "Nazi", but still......
I'll see if I can find the article again.

If you actually read the article, it asserts that the U.S. oil companies were opposed to privatization, especially if it might undermine OPEC and lead to lower oil prices. And that they have prevailed.
Rhetoric about "stealing" oil is simpleminded vulgar Marxism.
Washington's goal is strategic control of Iraq's oil reserves as leverage against imperialist competitors.

I think you may have posted in the wrong thread.

Even some supposed liberals dispute that as well on this board.
It's not simply a coincidence that Iraq is one of the largest oil producers in the world.
Interesting how the first thing US forces secured were the oil fields....

Not that im sympathising. But that was probably to stop the Iraqi soldiers from igniting them, which they did in some places.

Oil is definitely a HUGE issue, how can anyone debate this?
But I think the BIGGEST reason we got into Iraq is fear of Saddamn Hussein. Saddamn wanted oil to be traded in Euros i.e. the value of the dollar would greatly go down. If we started trading in Euros people would no longer need to invest in our banks and Saudi Arabia, who invests A LOT of money in our banks was to take that money out our economy would go WILD. It seems anyone who has this crazy idea to trade in Euros is an enemy of the Bush admin look at Chavez and the prez of Iran.

I find the whole idea of a 'war for oil' to be completely ludicrous.
The majority of American oil comes from Canada. They are a far more dependable and loyal supplier and to my knowledge our relationship with them in that industry is just fine.
Iraq's oil resources are much smaller than Iran's. If we were interested in a war for oil, why not attack them instead?

Well, to be precise, he did say the majority of American oil (I suspect he means imported into the U.S.)
But even so, that has nothing to do with the point. Emma Goldman's list is the one which is relevant.

Haven't heard that one either. I'm pretty sure they DON'T actually have them but they are developing them.
