ok so for the past year ive been into these two bands Aiden and I am ghost, ive classified them as post-hardcore i guess, anyways a few days ago i was reading a magazine and it was talking about a genre known as horror rock it described it as a mix between horror punk and rock, some of the artists it put under this genre included Aiden, I am ghost, My chemical romance, and A.F.I(which i found surprising considering they claim to be hardcore punk) soo anyways what are your thoughts on this genre. Oh and could you please keep the negitive critizisms down, if you have no accual oppion other than it sucks dont bother writting.

Of the bands you mentioned I've only heard of AFI, never bothered to actually listen to them though.

I do enjoy listening to the Misfits and some psychobilly stuff as long it is all pretty tongue in cheek good for a laugh type stuff. If they were trying to be serious I wouldn't bother. I'm trying to imagine "horror rock" as opposed to "horror punk", psychobilly, or goth. It doesn't intrigue me.

Sounds kind of ridiculous. Kind of like when there was horror rap back in the ealry 90s. What happened to that stuff?

But if that's just the name for bands like My Chemical Romance and AFI then what the hell? Maybe it's just another label for music people are already familiar with. But I wouldn't consider either of those bands "horror rock" . Maybe just cus they both wear shitty eyeliner though.

Worst band ever

That's my constructive critiscism

I think Ian is going to be pissed off when he sees this thread

I once saw an album by The Damned under "horror punk" in a store...also the Misfits and AFI. I can kinda understand why they would do this, because of lyrical content/image...but I think people should stop making more and more little subgenres because they are really annoying.

Now that I think of it, psychobilly seems like something that would be closely related to "horror rock."

AFI started out with a kickass hardcore sound, went slowly more melodic and now are experimenting with a bunch of stuff. Very good band.

I FUCKIN <3 AFI!!!!!!! The point is I got Sing the Sorrow when I was 14, at a time when I was really depressed, and I just really loved Davey's lyrics, especially "Leaving song", "The Great Disappointment" and "This Celluloid Dream" (which also has a kickass intro!)
Sice then, I have acquired "Black Sails in the Sunset" and "The Art of Drowning", both uber-pukka albums. It was really strange to see the radical difference between "B.S" and "StS".
I can't wait till I have the money for December Underground"!
Can anyone tell me what it's like ;)

I heard the song "Miss Murder" from their new album and it was pretty good. It has a sound closest to Sing the Sorrow.

The first album I listened to of theirs was Art of Drowning which I loved. AFI was the first punk band I ever listened to so they are pretty special to me, even if the punk elitist in me was extremely disappointed when they came out with Sorrow.

Now I just listen to music and pay no attention to genre cause that just gets stupid.
