CPB Homepage (http://www.communist-party.org.uk/)
This lot seem to be the main communist party in Britain these days, and claim to be the rightful successors to the old CPGB (this party formed in 1988 as a break away from the old one). Now I've spent some time looking around their site, and also reading up on them from other sources, and they seem to me to be a fairly rational bunch- I even marched with them at the anti-war demo in London last March. Just wondering if anyone on these boards is/was a member, supporter, or just has an opinion on them. Cheers.

I only had a glance, so feel free to point anything out to me.
It looks nice, but it seems rather glossed over. I don't personally believe we are ready to jump to communism just yet, and I feel a socialist (welfare capitalism if you will) society needs to be established first, and to further squeeze capitalism as the final mode of production. Jumping straight to a communist society, or trying to reform a socialist society to a communist one, when the rest of the world (it's peolpe) has no interest in establishing such a society also would be catastrophic.

On the CPB:
From what I've heard about them, they are Marxist-Leninist and seem pretty positive, largest Communist party in Britain and the only one allowed by the EC to use the hammer and sickle on their literature. I'm not sure of there position on Stalin (would be interested to know if anyone does?). Probably the best party to join if you are out "party hunting" (please please don't go with the SWP! Trots my arse.... <_< )
Toothlessjoe: I'm pretty sure the CPB are not advocating jumping right to Communism as it would simply be impossible. There are a couple of Lenin quotes on their site which suggests they at least agree with a few things by Lenin.
Another British party in case you're interested: CPGB, who if I recall correctly are anti-Stalinist:

The theory section of their website has some fantastic articles.

I think that they're anti-Stalin, I've certainly not read anything on their site or anywhere else that suggests they are. The only really Stalinist party I know about is the Communist Party of Great Britain (Marxist-Leninist), who are lead by Harpal Brar, a notorious Stalin sympathiser.

Can you elaborate on the hammer and sickle bit. I don't understand the why the EC would rule on this and why it matters.

The Electoral Commission rules that a symbol can only be used by one party, e.g. only Labour can use the red rose, only the Tories can use that torch thing etc. This is so that voting slips do not get too complicated when elections happen. The CPB is the only party that is allowed to use the hammer and sickle on voting papers, other communist parties are not. Although the CPB more often use their own hammer and dove symbol (see their website).

He's an anarchist. ;)
I normally avoid the "communist party of ______", because they have a tendency to be grossly reformist.
