View Full Version : Ethnological Notebooks
I am planning to make a study on the Iroquis and I've read that Marx talked about them in his Ethnological Notebooks, but I can't find the Ethnological Notebooks, can someone help me find this book?

It's available at some academic libraries particularly university libraries. You're not going to depend on Marx's analysis of the Iroquois, are you? There are certainly better analyzations out there.
No, I won't depend on it, but I feel it will probably be the most relevant analysis to the point I will try to make, also it is the hardest to get among the books I will use. Thanks for the reply.

OK, I see.

Well, if you don't live near a university library, you could try to make an interlibrary loan or something.

I am moving to another country in three weeks and I don't think I will be able to find it in any universities where I am going. Is there something like an international interlibrary loan?

Yeah, they have those but I think they're only available in certain libraries.

Marx relied on the work of Lewis Henry Morgan for his knowledge of the North American Native People, esp. "The League of the Ho-de-no-sau-nee or Iroquois" (1851)
You would do well to read the original source of Marx's inspiration, Morgan is note worthy in and of himself. Marx was keenly interested in Morgan's views.
Of course Marx in his notebooks commented greatly on Morgan's work, sometimes offering corrections.
