Alright, I want to let you guys know about a new messageboard, it's a bit on the "intelligent debate" side, and I know that some of you like that. I've been talking to this guy for a while, and have gotten a feel of what he's about, and thought I should introduce you all to his site.

Basically the premise is that rough theories are posted, then debated for the purpose of revising the original theory, improving it. There's a variety of topics, there's something for everyone :P

happy browsing!

Here's what is written about the spirit of the board (The Philosopher Citizens).

This is a critical time in the world. Never before have there been so many opportunities and so little freedom to use them. Never before has there been so much knowledge available in the world and so few people who will seek it out, let alone read between the lines. Ours is an era of limitless ability, and yet surrounded by limitless cruelty, all because we have been too complacent and self-indulgent to seek the truth and to act on it.

This group is dedicated toward discovering and discussing the state of the world, of cultures and of humanity, and to act to bring about changes for the benefit of all. We are not affiliated with any political group or movement, we will not be afraid to question the very basis of human actions and society, and we will not allow this incredible complex of lives, goals and dreams that we call our world to slip in to degradation and destruction. Our generation faces a terrible responsibility; it is our actions and our words that will bring about a new era for the history of the world, or bring us to extinction.

If you share an open mind, a love of humanity, a willingness to question your own assumptions of the world, and share your knowledge and understanding with others, than we welcome you. If you are afraid to change, afraid to stand up for what you believe in, afraid to open your eyes and accept all individual people as irreplaceable and precious, then you should look elsewhere. We embrace all humanity as we see with new eyes. We are The Philosopher Citizens

Hello everyone, I am the creator of the site. I thought I would give you a preview of some of the concepts that are involved in the group. Here is (1)Intellectual Freedom and (2)The First Act of Intellectual Freedom.

1)The understanding of cultural manipulation on the individual and the action of making an active effort to understand and reevaluate the subconscious assumptions and values of the individual. Which were instilled in them at an early age and are continued to be installed through out their lives by their experiances. It has to do with at the creation of these assumptions and values, they were consciously agreed upon by the individual. So it is the critic and reevaluation of these begining conscious agrements through out ones life, to alter these subconscious assumptions and values to represent, the human as they are now (hopefully), an analytical, critical, conscious, independent being from before when these creation of assumptions and values were created, which was when the human was more like a sponge soaking in the values and assumptions of its society in order to acquire its means of Subsistence and thirst for knowledge. This i suppose must be done from looking back on earliest to newest assumptions and values but it is a constant analysis and critic of cultural manipulation on the individual in the hopes of discovering or creating "Self". Now obviously this is a very hard thing to accomplish fully if ever possible but it is more the active conscious decision to partake in this activity that holds importance.

2)The biggest problem with Intellectual Freedom is the effects it has on the person that initiates it in their lives. Before we talk about the effects of it on the individual, let us discuss why these effects occur. First, detachment from a certain belief, detaches the individual from others that hold that belief. Second, which most western societies push emphasis on popularity and value of the individual in relation to other people. This tells us a distinct fact, that western societies place the importance and value of the individual on the perspective of the majority and their common held beliefs (yes I will argue that the individual is valuable in and of it self, but that is an area for another topic).

There is more then just this though, we must look at the essence (or goal) of Intellectual Freedom. "It has to do with at the creation of these assumptions and values, they were consciously agreed upon by the individual. So it is the critic and reevaluation of these beginning conscious agreements through out ones life, to alter these subconscious assumptions and values to represent, the human as they are now (hopefully), an analytical, critical, conscious, independent being from before when these creation of assumptions and values were created, which was when the human was more like a sponge soaking in the values and assumptions of its society in order to acquire its means of Subsistence and thirst for knowledge." (From Intellectual Freedom post).

Why is this important to our discussion on individual value? Let us look further. If at our creation we accepted certain values and assumptions (or "truths") from our society (or social network "the family") and it is the procedure of Intellectual Freedom to critically analyze these values and assumptions. Then our concepts of individual value must have occurred the same way. We must have placed our concept of individual's value on the perspectives of others.

So why does this cause a problem, an unwanted effect, for those that initiate in Intellectual Freedom. Well if we base our and others individual value on the perspective of others, while the process of Intellectual Freedom (in most cases) detaches ourselves from the common held beliefs of our society (so in most cases it will detach us from our society. Unless our conclusion allies itself with a sub culture of our society, which may not be all entirely healthy for the process of Intellectual Freedom because we are supposed to come to our own conclusions and attaching our beliefs to a sub culture can often become a cop out to the full process.). So when detaching ourselves from the common held beliefs of our society, it is simple to say that most people will disagree with us (even if they cannot state why) and if we place individual value on the perspectives of others. To say plainly, will leave us with a depressing and self-destructive feeling of ourselves (something that I am sure each and everyone would like to avoid).

In conclusion, I believe it is the first step of Intellectual Freedom to come to the conclusion that our value is independent of others perspectives. That our value may be Innate, (if your optimistic) through our actions, (if your a consequentialist) or may not ever exist, we just are (if your a nihilist) or maybe a combination of these. (If you would like me to add another possibility that I have not thought of just private message me and I will) Otherwise, the process of Intellectual Freedom may be ultimately doomed to failure or even worse, rejection.

--Iceman-- Hope to see you all possibily :)
