I was doing some research about the Cambodian Killing Fields. I was shocked to learn that the group responsible for this was a communist one. that one of Khmer Rouge?
What was all this about? and how does this look for communism and for what some of you have told me it means and it stands for.

The Khmer Rouge may have claimed to be communists, but in reality they were just insane. To look deeper into this, I'd check out here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Khmer_Rouge) and here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pol_Pot) and here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Killing_Fields)

Another interesting page: here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Democratic_Kampuchea)
It seems that the Khmer Rouge wanted to go immediately to communism without the steps inbetween (unlike Russia, China etc.). In the end, this plan caused the deaths of some 1.7 million people (roughly) through execution, starvation and illness.

The Khmer Rouge were not communists. The agrarian utopia they set out to create turned into nothing more than a nightmarish world in which killings and beatings were the norm.

China tried something similar in the Great Leap Forward but that failed. Zhou Enlai later warned the Khmer Rouge not to follow this path but obviously, they paid no heed and went even further.

Or had soft hands or spoke a foreign language. This xenophobia and anti-intellectualism characterized much of their rule.

That didn't take long until a Pol Pot Jello Biafra chat started.
Good song.
Any way.
How do you counter people who say they are Communist, I mean, people are quite set in their ways.

Well, for starters, people would have to know what communism actually is. Look at the stigma that has developed towards communism due to the actions of Stalin, Mao, and Pol Pot and you will see one major obstacle to our movement.

That's because the actual name of the Khmer Rouge was the Communist Party of Kampuchea. Khmer Rouge was just a name coined by Sihanouk that was later adopted in English. It means Red Khmer.

Yeah, me and some comrades in my school are campaigning that they add a second, correct definition for Communism in our History text books

In many Ways, they were as uncommunist as you can get in these sense that they turned traditional Marxism Leninism on its head - instead of having the proletariat as the revolutionary class that acts as the engine of history, they glorified the role of the peasantry.
