Cuban government: not as fucked up as it's made out to be. Government decisions have to go through the popularly-elected national assembly, which is a lot like the United States' congress. This assembly can also recall members of the other legislative branches, even Fidel himself should they be so inclined. The president (Fidel, of course) also has to come before the national assembly on a regular basis and explain to them what his plans are.

It seems to me that the most powerful branch of their government is this assembly, which is elected by popular vote by all citizens over the age of 16, and because of this I believe that the government of Cuba is more of a republic than it is a dictatorship.

This is all to the best of my knowledge, however, there are a lot of myths floating around about the organization of the Cuban government, so if anything I've said is mistaken, feel free to correct me.

i agree with jjack. when ever i support Cuba or Fidel Castro in my school the only response i get is "if he is so good why are people fleeing in make shift rafts" thats all they can come up with... they dont understand what good Fidel has done for Cuba. what about all the healthcare issues he has taken care of... Cuba could be in a lot worse hands than Fidel's

I totally support Fidel and the cuban revolution, that is why i am such a big Che fan.

But i heard terrible stories about Cuba and not from the TV, but from friends who been there, although i dont believe them since they are the most stupid/capitalist/ignorant people i know.

I know fidel has done some awesome things for the cuban people and i have read a bunch of books about the cuabn revolution when it started in 57 and ended with the overthrow of Batista on december of 59, and all their plans for the island and the industry with the help of the URSS and the boycott from the US.

The cuban government is an example that the farmers can organize a revolution and defeat and army, how 12 man can survive a surprise attack and emerge from the jungle to control Sierra Maestra.

The reolution is possible, Cuba is an example

Well, Mexico is a capitalist country that is generally considered a great democracy by our government, but more people are risking their lives to get in from Mexico than they are from Cuba.

The other thing to consider is that socialism doesn't allow people to be wastefully rich, and some folks obviously don't like that. If I'm a baseball star in Cuba, I'm not going to be paid more than someone who cuts sugar cane. But if I go to the US, I can sign a deal with a major league team and become filthy rich even if I make the league minimum. Anyone willing to cooperate with the CIA is also in the same boat, I presume.

In any event, the US that Cubans hear about on 24/7 radio propaganda stations that the United States broadcasts there, certainly isn't the US most of us live in. Remember the whole Elian scandal? The thing that pissed me off is that they took an 8 year old kid to Disney Land every day and said, "Don't you want to stay in America!?!" and expected him to make an informed decision that would be with him the rest of his life. They tried to trick a little boy into think that in America you can have whatever you want, just so they could use him for their political gain. With this kind of deception going on, it's no wonder so many Cubans flock to America--they don't realise that Americans DON'T get everything they want, and some of them get less than Cubans do.

I know Cubans education system is one of the best, magical for US standards. But wasn't it Japan who has the best education system?

You're right Japan's is the best but Cuba, Malta, UK, Isreal follow.... Certainly Cuba's educational system is the best in Latin America by far.

The Americans say it's bad !! Stupid gits.... they thought they were going to crush Cuba during the battle of the Bay of Pigs, they have an educational system which is worse than that of Cuba by far and in spite of the embargo Cuba have mantained a fantastic health care system which is free of charge by the way not like the American one where green papers mean LIFE !! So they say Cuba is in a bad state.... they're so damn ENVIOUS !!!
