Alchemy is a completly different thing than chemistry. Alchemists tried to create gold (and magic potions in various RPG:s).

Actually, alchemy combined different sciences including chemistry. It was one of the main precursors of modern science and the discovery of various substances is due in part to the work of these alchemists.

However, I think Kalm Kid meant something else by this term.Maybe?
