I am a fan of punk bands like the clash and ramones and sex pisols.
What i wanted to ask was what are your views on punk rock and is it just as good as heavy metal or alternative.

Punk whoops heavy metal, but when i refer to heavy metal i mean the useless shit like Shadows fall and similar bands where you dont know a damn word of what they say. The clash is my favorite band, I also am really fond of Joe's work with the Mescaleros, and well as with the 101ers

Mick Jones is in another band called Carbon/Silicon, theres a site online where you can download some of their songs.

RIP Joe

Shadows Fall
Go listen to 'Inspiration On Demand' and tell me they're crap

Punk means different things to different people - older punk like the Pistols is good, but it's not a genre you can really immerse yourself in

Give me a steady beat, and a deep guitar. I'm not much into Screamo, or whatever that screaming, crazy, chaotic stuff is called. Marley <3.

Though I do like some Sex Pistols stuff. And the Ramones... and the Clash...

Fuck, how can you not like em? =P

I like the clash and the ramones, they are cool n' all.

But my fav punk bands are bad religion, they rule!

Also NOFX, Pennywise, TSOL, Four Foot fingers & anti-flag.

I'm more a Crass guy myself.

I think punk is MUCH MUCH better live at a show. You just get such a more euphoric experience.

Punk Rock is the SHIT!! I didn't listen to it much before I came here but I was searching for some type of revolutionary music; I found just that in Punk

I like NOFX, Anti-Flag, Propaghandi, etc..

Punk is the only type of genre that is inherently revolutionary. Skrewdriver is the one exception. . .

I don't really like punk, some of it is O.K but it's not that great.

What really made me want to post is the way the title is written, "punk your thoughts", what's that? Like, "pimp my car" but making your thoughts more "punk"? :P

Not to be pedantic, but a little grammar never hurts. :P

I love Punk because of the attitude it brings with it, the culture surrounding it is such an attraction. It just makes you throw your middle finger up in the air, and not give a shit about authority or anything like that. For a youth in this day and age punk is sweet and a great way to rage against the system.

I have been listening to punk for about 4 years now, so yeah I love it. I like so many bands I can't even begin to name them all.

It's simple, it's aggressive, sounds good, and very political. What else could I ask for?

Oh and I listen to good shit, not the bubble gum bullshit that some people call punk.

Conservative punk is something i don't understand, like the conservative part. Doesn't that totally contradict the whole basis of punk and the culture that follows it? Can someone explain this to me? Does this mean the whole do what ya fuckin want attitude goes out the window?

How much Bad Religion have you listened to? They are without a doubt a punk band their sound is quite typical of southern california punk. Keep in mind I haven't listened to any albums since the Gray Race. Now if you listen to the early stuff on "How Could Hell be any Worse" of 80-85 it is a bit different from the early 90s stuff.

As for conservativepunk.com, several people have already pointed out how ridiculous that site and the person who runs it is. And how many of the bands listed on that site don't suck?

Conservative punks are really just misguided mealheads.

Metal is by and large right-wing. Especially dark metal. I can only name 2 metal bands who I'd class as left: S.O.A.D and R.A.T.M. One must remember Bruce Dickinson is in the Blue Nazis (tories)

You really undermine Metal by classifing it as a "right-wing genre", because 90% of the bands are apolitical by nature. However, when it comes to Black Metal (you wrongly named it Dark Metal), you´re right that there are a lot of right-wing dicks because of it´s romanticist and neo-pagan roots, but there are also anarchist guys in that genre (Filii Nigrantium Infernalium is the first band that pops in my head). And to add to your list of left-wing metal, here´s some: Napalm Death, Filii Nigrantium Infernalium, Nasum, Nevermore, Atheist, Ministry, Tool, Amebix, D.R.I., Corrosion of Conformity, God Forbid, etc...
And if everyone who listens to Metal is a "Closet Nazi", how come several CC members listen to bands like Slayer? Are they... Nazis?

I know this respons wasn't really directed at me but I seem to have gotten the ball rolling down this path so here goes...

Apolitical huh, that's part of the problem with most metal. Living in some kind of fantasy world of dragons and such. Metal undermines itself. Ministry ain't metal and DRI they used to be punks, COC aren't bad and Tool seems pretty good don't know any of the others. I only know from personal experience that most metal heads also tend to be conservative, maybe not rabidly but yeah conservative (I find most apolitical people to really be conservative anyway) that's from a person who grew up in the US. Now perhaps in other countries it is a bit different. Now at the same time from personal experience most punks tend to be at least somewhat leftist as does much of the music. Sometimes it attracts some mis-guided individuals who happen to be conservative and sometimes they get that way with age but it is, despite the existence of a few bands very much a leftist genre of music.

Having said that the greatest metal band of all-time is one of my favorite bands, that would be Black Sabbath who despite several albums, tours and singers ceased to exist in the late 1970's

Some people might enjoy having politics on the brain 24/7 but most like a little break now and then - listening to music (whatever genre) is a release just like romance or sports - they're seperate from politics and if they weren't we'd all be insane within a day of living under this capitalist system

It seems some members of this board express their political beliefs through the music they listen to instead of on the streets and in people's minds
