Online gambling.

£1000 a second.

Partygaming.com

Its the fifth biggest company in the UK, bigger than British Airways and sainsbury's even!

The entrepreneurs make massive amounts of money, and the players get an addiction and sometimes it ruins people lives. Problems gambling, according to the BBC news, is around 90,000 people at the moment in the UK.

Should this be allowed?

Is it a "perk" of capitalism?

Or is it playing on peoples desire to get out of wage slavery? and ruining many lives in the process.

It's immoral but it should be allowed because if you start regulating things suddenly you're not allowed to go fishing without a licence like here in Victoria.:(

Putting Fishing aside for a moment...I think that gambling is a result, of the Capitalist system. Thats not very Original I know. But Just as Commodities can become fetishised, the same goes for money (because money is, after all, a means of exchange) This Money Fetishism is manifested in gambling; the thrill that people get from suddenly gaining money through chance is indicative of the money driven society in which we live. Dont get me wrong, a little card game is great fun, but under Capitalism its got to the stage where gambling is a social disease.

Gambling is not a result of capitalism its a result of scam artists. Gambling easily predates the whole idea of capitalism as a whole. I think its just a cause of people realizing the ease to screw with peoples confidence.

I agree. I'm a capitlist and I have no interest in gambling. I have some lowlife friends from school however who are pissed that I don't participate in their drunken 'high stakes' poker orgies and not all of them are even capitalists. Its just another addiction
