Im listening to alot of Persian instrumental music right now. There is a radio site that i like alot, its hit and miss, but when it hits, it hits hard and good. www.radiodarvish.com

Aside from that, Godspeed You! Black Emperor never fails to disapoint. ditto with Explosions in the Sky.

i like a lot of post-rock and post-metal bands. in particular:

Explosions in the sky
Red Sparrowes
Pelican
Isis (not all of their songs are instrumental, but some are)
This is a process of a still life

Also, some classical is great. in particular, i enjoy:

Stravinsky's Rites of Spring
The Blue Notebook by Max Richter

most other classical stuff i like has vocal arrangements.

There is this local Jazz Jam band from a city near here, and I see them there about once a year. They are called Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey. Pretty amazing musicians if you are into jazz. most of their show is all improvised.

I love the bass in Metallicas Orion, Cliff Burton was real good, anything by the buddy rich big band also kicks ass.

Orion is brilliant. I think Metallica back in them days made the best metal music there was. They produced some cracking instrumentals. The call of ktulu and to live is to die are exellent. Personally I think 'to live is to die' by Metallica is my favourite instrumental.

there are many many instrumental songs that I like, but i would have to say my top 2 favorites are Jessica by the Allman Brothers and Watermelon Man by Herbie Hancock, they are both really catchy even though they have no lyrics, and they are also fun songs to play.
