heres the problem, im really into politics and really into music, specifically the clash, and punk, reggae, classic rock etc...

Im torn of which to devote most of my time on, it seems that playing the guitar takes a lot of motivation and preserverence. I know i could play political stuff, but its like I know i want to play, but cant get the jump start to do it.

Punk music is 3 chord rock for a reason. It's easy, anyone can do it.

You don't need to devote much time to your band, just enough time to get a few initial practices then just continue to gig.

Hardest part is getting the members for the band together.

I think all that 3 chord DIY punk talk is all a big lie. 90% of all punk band have at least one skilled musician as a member.

I agree with Malte, punk is not just the three chord genre like everybody says, just look at the clash. even the ramones uses more than three chords, In fact i havent heard many, if any three chord bands. Anybody got any replies to the subject of the post?

just because a band has talented members doesn't mean they are applying that talent. a power chord is still a power chord.

Lets move away from this talk about three chord progression. As i do play and i find it fair insulting that you call the music i write and play as poor quality. Writing the stuff really isn't about three chords at all. But lets not go there. I suffered the same problem for awhile about motivation. Then i watched Rage against the Machine's Live at Olympic Auditorium. I think thats what it's called. And one of the special features of it was a gig they did outside the National Democratic Convention. So the last song of the set they play Killing in thy name. And there was my inspiration. The wave after wave of people then the riot it caused after. I thought if i could make even the smallest group of people think like that. To influence them in some way, then i'll succeed as an artist. Still got my eyes on the goal and it's been my driving force since.

Punk isn't about musical talent, it is about exactly what Little Brother just said, getting your word out/kicking some ass/having a damn good time.

Where do you find your motivation? Well first, you have to ask yourself this question: What do you want to do with your life? If you want to fight for what you believe, how do you plan on doing it? If being a musician is the answer to those questions, than let that be your motivation.

Learning anything takes motivation and perserverance. If it is a labour to do it and your not enjoying it, then stick to listening. There is no magic overnight trick to master guitar, it takes years of practice, practice, practice, and if your not enjoying it, then there is no point.

I have been playing for 6months and i am still trying to play ramones stuff! I suck, but i am enjoying it, so it doesn't matter.
