He's an extremely influential linguist as well as an excellent writer on foreign policy. He is a self described "Libertarian Socialist" and he has written a book on Anarchism which I can't recall the name of. Many people don't like him because he's bourgeoise but his books turned me onto anarchism so I really don't give a damn. He's a brilliant writer and thats all that really matters.
chomsky, is an anarchist. i have personally talked to him (through email) and he tends to support anarchism mostly. he is a professor in linguistics at MIT.
wikipedia should help much.

lol, I thought Chomsky was dead until about a month ago.
But on what I've read by him, though not being much as yet I admit, he seems very good indeed.

Thats awesome. I love writers like that. I need to think of something to write too him. . .
Do you think it would be redundant if I asked him about the place of militant action in protesting today?
My 'Applied Philosophy: Power of Speech' class actually was able to talk through speakerphone to him for a half hour or so. He is gettin on in the years, and is quite hard to understand about half the time =\... but I managed to get a "Solidarity forever!" out of him when we were saying our goodbyes =D.
http://www.chomsky.info/audionvideo.htm (here is his personal website with a collection of interviews/speeches he has given over the years.)

Well in general he is very good a refuting arguments.
And i think much of his thinking is inline with the concesus of this board.
However, what i find annoying is his lack of thoery regarding HOW revolution could be achieved.
He says its possible, he says people want more freedom. But he doesnt explain what he thinks the motivation for the workers to do this is.
Sometimes i think he is a materialist, other times im confused.
good guy overall though.

I've always found him interesting, recently he was in Lebanon meeting Hassan NaserAllah I wish I had a chance to go there to meet him.
I'll get more of his books in two, three weeks.

Chomsky originally became famous for his work in linguistics particularly in his theory of the language acquisition device. He is still a professor of linguistics at MIT. However, he also writes on political theory and is quite famous in leftist circles due to that.

I just finished reading his book "understanding power" I would recomend it to everyone.Although i am also confused at his lack of opinion in which direction the struggle should go,maybe im just looking for the easy way out :P

I think Chomsky's cool, pragmatic, scientific thinking is awesome. There is lots of stuff on youtube featuring Chomsky, speeches etc. I would love to go and hear him speak in the flesh before he gives it up. He's knocking on a bit now.

Is it for that thing about the surface and deep structure?
