View Full Version : More Christian Fundamentalist Garbage - You're gonna love th

As many of you know by now, I work for a public school here in Florida. I have previously posted the abuse of school supplied e-mail as a method for prosthelitizing Fundamentalist Christian beliefs. Although the origin of this e-mail was outside of the school district, it was forwarded to EVERYONE in the district by a teacher. This is especially infuriating since the U.S. Constitution is supposed to bar this kind of garbage. Anyhow, here it is:

Jim Neugent is a coach in Childress, Texas.

JIM WRITES:

My name is Jim Neugent. I wrote to ABC, on-line, concerning a program
called "The Practice." In last nights episode, one of the lawyer's mothers
decided she is gay and wanted her son to go to court and help her get a
marriage license so she could marry her "partner"! I sent the following
letter to ABC yesterday and really did not expect a reply, but I did get
one.

My original message was:

ABC is obsessed (or should I say abscessed) with the subject of
homosexuality. I will no longer watch any of your attempts to convince the
world that homosexuality is OK. "The Practice" can be a fairly good show,
but last night's program was so typical of your agenda. You picked the
dufus of the office to be the one who was against the idea of his mother
being gay and made him look like a whiner because he had convictions. This
type of mentality calls people like me a "gay basher." Read the first
chapter of Romans (that's in the Bible) and see what the apostle Paul had to
say about it..........He, God and Jesus were all "gay bashers." What if
she'd fallen in love with her cocker spaniel? Is that an alternative
lifestyle? (By the way, the Bible speaks against that, too.) - Jim Neugent.

Here is ABC's reply from the ABC on-line webmaster:

How about getting your nose out of the Bible (which is ONLY a book of
stories compiled by MANY different writers hundreds of years ago) and read
the declaration of independence (what our nation is built on) where it says
"All men are created equal" - and try treating them that way for a change?
Or better yet, try thinking for yourself and stop using an archaic book of
stories as your lame crutch for your existence. You are in the minority in
this country and your boycott will not affect us or our freedom of
statement.

Jim Neugent's second response to ABC:

Thanks for your reply...........From your harsh reply, evidently I hit a
nerve. I will share it with all with whom I come in contact. Hopefully,
the Arkansas Democratic Newspaper will include it in one of their columns
and I will be praying for you. - Jim Neugent

Note: Wouldn't Satan just love it if people stopped using the Bible for a
crutch? Please re-send this to everyone in your mailbox. - Thanks, Jim
Neugent.

I wonder if the person from ABC on-line webmaster considered how many people
would read this e-mail. This is one we should definitely all pass on.

I choose to remain professional about this, so I'm not going to give out the teacher's e-mail address. I will, however, give you the address of the guy who sent it to her: [email protected] This so you can congratulate him on his progressive, humanitarian, and logical thinking. Apparently, he's abusing his e-mail privelages as well... The domain name is registered to the Trane Corporation, a manufacturer of air conditioners that has a plant here in town.

Nice reply, I must say.
Jim Nugent is obviously a bit of an idiot. Is that his e-mail address?

And how does the US constitution bar mails like that?

That is actually a matter of what's commonly reffered to as judicial law. The Supreme Court has ruled that compulsory prayer in public facilities, officially certified state religions, etc. are unconstitutional.

This comes from two basic premises that the Court has ruled on in the past, which stem from the "freedom of religion" clause of the First Ammendment to the Constitution:

1) Non-endorsement--That no body of the government, whether municipal, state, or federal, shall either certify or provide for the furtherance of one religion over any other.

2) Excessive entanglement--That no body of the state (as outlined above) shall pass legislation that provides for the hindrance of any religion.

In other words, the Supreme Court has basically said to the various branches of government and all public institutions that they shall act neither for nor against any religion. The most recent example came from the Supreme Court prohibiting Christians in Alabama from displaying The 10 Commandments at the entrance of state run schools.

In the case of this e-mail, an employee used a computer, servers, and networking hardware which were owned and maintained by a public school for the furtherance of the religion of Christianity. This act, therefore, violates the right to freedom of religion as outlined in the First Ammendment to the Constitution as interpreted by the highest court in the land: The U.S. Supreme Court.

And no, that's not Nugent's address. That address belongs to the middle man. He recieved the e-mail from Nugent and then forwarded to a woman who happens to be an employee at a local school. She then forwarded it to every other employee in the school district. I had hoped that by e-mailing this Brad Harris character with all sorts of nasty comments we'd be getting back at Nugent and the unnamed school employee via proxy.

Fundamentalist Christian’s make me feel sick. I often wonder what exactly is it that they read that leads to their fucked up beliefs because most of them cannot be supported in any way by the New Testament. They actually contradict the NT.

When dealing with Fundamentelist Christians I live by one rule. This rule has protected me thus far and I feel I should give you my secret.

Don't drink the punch ;)

I'm no expert, but I'm not convinced that that ABC reply is genuine. Would they really dig at someone like that? Usually, big companies will just get their PR dept to write a nice reply to keep face.

I'd like to think that it was the latter, but it was probably the former.

Yes, and to control people. If you tell most people that if they follow what you say they'll go to a paradise after they die. they'll be your servents for the rest of thier lives.

It is sick when you think of it.

Religion, although I can agree that it's lies, is only harmful when people fail to realize the "stuff" they created is so much greater then them, when more logically all the "stuff" we create can be quite helpful if we realize we made it.
