In July 2006 in central London a huge left wing festival will be held celebrating socialism. Such speakers such as Tony Benn, George Galloway, Lindsay German, Mark Steel and director Gillo Pontecorvo. It should be lots of fun, some of my comrades went last year and the year before. Apparently its great experience to learn how to live like a proper comrade on the streets of London while discussing socialism and of course drinking!

Just in case anyone is interested, ticket prices are: waged ticket, £45; unwaged ticket, £32; HE student ticket, £25; under 18/school/FE student ticket, £15. From what I gather, if you contact the organisers in time, they may be able to provide you with free accomadation....to quote the website, "We can find you somewhere to stay with political activists in London. This is free, but you may well be sleeping on the floor."

The event starts on July 6th (which might be half term, as that would help students) and ends on the 10th. And, on top of that, although it's organised by the Socialist Workers Party, I'm pretty sure they're happy with people from "rival" groups attending.

Oh yes, didn't think of that. No one minds hopefully. I'm not a member but i should be fun to discuss ideas and listen to these great statesmen and women.

Are you going Armchair Socialism?

Unfortunately not; 4 days worth of food and drink, tickets and travel is a little to much for my budget at the moment....hopefully they'll put the speeches up on the internet at some point; I've heard, for instance, Tony Benn and Paul Foot speak from Marxism 2003 I think. And I think the talk on the 60's by Chris Harman and a few others could be one of the best this year.

Be sure to report back! :)

Oh I will. It says from your details that you're from Wales. Which part?

Swansea.

The city that produced Class War and Alan Woods....swings and roundabouts I suppose. <_<
