Has anyone else seen the movie? What do you think?
I think that it okay though it was clear that the producers were trying to reduce controversy by presenting an impartial view of it and the statements at the end.

It was really, really bad :(
I haven't read the book though
the statements at the end.
?

Toward the end, where Hanks says:It's up to you and what you believe in". You could tell they were trying to be impartial.

Oh right, I thought maybe in the US there were statements at the end of the film stating it was all fiction and the Pope is a really cool dude or something like that

No, that was at the beginning.

Just kidding. It hasn't gotten that bad...yet.
You'll have to read the book to identify the subtle differences. But like I said, the movie toned down the controversy quite a bit.

 Good one
Yeah, those self-flagellation scenes were really sucky
There was a guy outside the cinema handing out little leaflets about the film, seemed like a pile of reactionary bullshit so I walked out to the guy and handed him the leaflet back;
Me: I don't see what your problem is with the film
Guy: I don't have a problem with the film
Me: Then why are you handing out this stuff?
Guy: I'm getting payed
Me:  Okay

It was a good movie. Not great but good.
Whats lost on a lot of people is that the Da Vinci Code is a work of fiction. The christians must really be insecure with their faith if they are using up so much effort to disprove a work of fiction.

i think it was str8, like i would have expect more on the divinchi codes because i really have no idea what its about. well, only a bit, but i guess the movie was a good intro to it all.
when i left there was a huge line of people waiting to get in. they where all young people, not any older person in the crowed.

i was gonna see it tonight but decided against it. I figured it'd be sorta boring because it got bad reviews and is dealing with such heavy stuff.

I enjoyed it. Very Hollywoodish but entertaining enough for a friday night movie. I think if I had read the book I would've been disappointed because all of the key elements to the plot would've been stale, but if I do bother to read the book now it'll just be background information.

Yeah it wasn't bad but i must say it wasn't good. I've come to accpet that the "facts" layed down in it were exaggerated quite abit but thats what i liked about the book. These fatcs were sorta taken to an extreme. But they didn't show this that much in the movie. I was disappointed. Plus. I couldn't relate with Tom Hanks playing Robert Langdon. It just wasn't right. meh. I thought Angels and Demons better anyway.

DOn't be turned off by those reviews. I think they were bought off by christian priests. Its not bad at all.

lol I wouldn't go that far despite the fact that they really got themselves worked up about it. I was flipping through the channels when I came to FOX News and they were talking about 'the five biggest flaws in the DaVinci Code' I was like jeez it's just a book relax!

I should make a documentary about how God doesn't exist. Wouldn't that upset the church.

I just saw The Da Vinci Code. I thought it was a pretty good movie, I haven't read the book yet though.
by presenting an impartial view of it and the statements at the end.
Yeah, and also, when Hanks goes to see Ian McKellen (Leigh Teabing) and they start arguing and I think it's hanks who said "it's all just a theory".

Yes, the producers were trying to present both sides of the picture. Just to let you know, in the book, Robert Langdon agrees with Teabing and believes in the Holy Grail whoheartedly.

I thought that the movie was tougher on Opus Dei than the actual book. I guess that's a good thing since Opus Dei is quite reactionary and ultraconservative.

I agree. I thought Sean Connery would fit the role better. To me, whenever I think of Tom Hanks, I think of a car salesman (especially with that haircut) or Forrest Gump.
I should make a documentary about how God doesn't exist. Wouldn't that upset the church.
People do that but they're not extremely popular so the Church has nothing to worry about it.

Naaah, it was a decent piece of movie. Not great, but not bad either. Good actors (Hanks, Tautou, McKellen, Reno, Bettany, Molina), though not their best performances. McKellen was very funny and Tautou is sooo beautiful.
The book is better though.

I agree though it's always interesting to see the movie as well. So did you notice the subtle deviations between the book and movie?

I want to see the movie for curiosity's sake because I havent read the book. Here in my country, it was almost banned because of a lot of protests from different religious organizations but it's a good thing the censors are a bit "liberal" so they allowed the showing of the film. It was Rated 18 though <_<

That film should have gone straight to video.
Wooden acting from everyone but McKellen and a plot thats like walking through a swamp: slow, dank and annoyingly boring.
The film is actually like watching a book. I mean, the book is great because it takes you about a week to read it, and you take your time with it and get aborbed in it. The film tries to cram a week of exciting reading into a couple hours of drearywatching. You might expect it to be fast paced, like the book: wrong. You might expect excitable and over the top characters like the book: wrong.
And Tom Hanks? Seriously... with that hair? He looks like he should be store manager at Carpet World.
This film is dreadful.
In my opinion... :D
