Cant say its a shock. USA is banning sales of weaponary to Venezuela. Apparently Chavez isn't doing enough to support the anti-terror crusade, what a lame excuse for the fact that the US hates Hugo's policies and is starting to see him as a growing threat to US security.

This sort of action will only prove even more to the Venezuelan people that America sees Chavez as a threat, which can only be a positive thing as it will show the entire Latin American continent that America is scared of Venezuela.

Strangly enough your still aloud to sell weapons to Colombia, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Israel, Pakistan (which has hardly been the best alie in the "war on terror"), Kazakhstan, Russia, Libya, and countless other fine nations (who just happen not to question US hegemony too much).

I agree with everything you said.

I wonder what Chavez is going to say about this. Does he has a reponse?

Did Chavez previously get his arms from U.S.?? If not I am sure he will be laughing his ass off and sees it as an accomplishment. It is hilarious... "oh you guys aren't doing enough to fight the WAR ON TERROR. No guns for you!" LOL

Where was he getting all the guns to arm his civillian guerrila unit that he was creating?? Surely not the U.S.

The U.S. are such big hypocrites I can hardly stand it anymore. They ARE the terror.

Funny, I just heard this on the radio. More bull from the US.

See this it's this type of idiocy that put us in the 'energy crisis'. Clockwork asked wether Chavez had a response. It's obvious what his response will be; "you're not going to sell arms to us? Fine. We won't sell oil to you and if we do it'll be damn expensive". Also it's stupid for the US because now not only will Chavez give the money that was going to the US to the Russians, but also he'll build on this and gain public support. It's probably the dumbest thing the US has done this week. And it's only Monday...

I believe China but they have bought aircraft or boats or something from Spain in the past aswell. Possibly stuff from Russia but dont quote me on that.

Good, hopefully they will just get a patent to manufacture arms there. It's not as if he way buying significant ammounts from the US anyways.

Good, it'll show that Hugo Chavez and Venezuela are a major player ( at least in the eyes of the US ) on the World stage.

I hope he refuses to sell them oil. Watch all the Middle-Class Americans having to walk to work will be hilarious. :D

As a result of the above, though, the shit may indeed hit the fan, with regards to US-Venezuelan relations.

I was thumbing through The Daily Mail (UK) a couple of days ago, and it really tore into Chavez viewing him as a "terrorist" because he nationalized the Venezuelan industries, and said he was a "danger" to the world in the future, and that the US is most displeased with the Venezuelan government as a whole. and it had a photograph of him being very angry at a speech.

He bought 100 000 kalashnikovs form the Russians, that's what the civillian forces are being huilt up with. It's also likely that Venezuela will start producing its own ak47s.

USA is banning sales of weaponary to Venezuela.

Only weapons produced in the U.S., or weaponry from all over the world?

Weapons produced in America, or foreign-manufactured weapons IN America.

Chavez gets most of his arms from other countries. It's not like this will devastate Venezuela's capacity to defend itself.

whatever, Chavez doesn't really care so I guess its not that serious, especially if he gets more of his weapons from other countries and not the US.

Im sure this was done to clash with his european tour,a lame attempt to try and blacken his name while among europeans. What really makes me angry are the people who fall for this crap, atleast you can see why Bush and co are doing it,but when a person falls for there lies it really gets to me.why??????

This is quite insignificant from a trade point of view. As was previously mentioned Chavez will tell them to shove their weapons up their you know what and cop them elsewhere. The US is trying to provoke Chavez into making a "bad move" that the US can further exploit in the media to keep tricking people into their horrific portrayl of Chavez.

Thats exactly what I was thinking. I know Chavez and Bush haven't exactly been mates in the past but I think that this is the official start of something nasty. I am just praying that C. Rice doesnt get into power after Bush, if I was in the US I would be backing H. Clinton all the way. Presuming that these are the candidates that we be selected in the primaries.

Another case of America throwing their toys out of the pram. Amazing how everyone who disagrees with the Bush administration is a "terrorist".

This really is just for show by the Bush regime, Venezuela stopped buying arms from the US a long time ago, they now buy all their arms from Russia and China, so this whole arms ban is really irrevelavant.

I love how the U.S. claims to be the champion of the "free" market and then places these restrictions in place. I also wonder how the schools of the future will say about this (assuming that the U.S. gov't won't be overthrown before then).
