Under the thread I started "The Old USSR Flag" I've gone off topic about capitalism.
I was wondering how one goes about forming a Union. As there isn't one for Recording Engineers and is very needed! an other issue is the gas prices.

What does that have to do with recording engineers? Well here is what...
We have "runners" guys who's job is to ride in their car fetching stuff for the studio or for the clients. Sometimes when work is slow in the recording studio. I pick up some runner shifts to make some extra cash BUT! it feels like you are loosing money because this requires you to use your car! and gas is not cheap these days.

We get paid .32 cents a mile. this was fine 4 years ago. but now Gas Prices have more than double in the last 2 years. I would like to make those .32 cents into atleast .65 cents a mile.

I know that I cant go to my boss and request this. since this is a state rate i think? I don't know do you guys have any ideas?

well i'd suggest making it a union as broad as possible, as in not just recording engineers. Just start talking to people where you work (yes its way easier said than done i know ;) ) and see if there is any potential for organised action.

and i posted this in the other thread too, but here it is as well

might be of some help.
There's bound to be more on the web besides that, just google it or something. Anarchosyndicalism is interesting as well (a revolutionary left ideology, bit of a split between marxism and anarchism, with unions as the focal point)
