View Full Version : Police harrasment - brave officers behind badges

Comrade Marcel
20th April 2003, 05:50
Well, I had quite the day today.

It was a day with great weather, not too hot & a slightly chilled spring breeze.

I met up with some of my Comrades earlier in the day, & we talked about various issues black youth are facing in their community as well as current global issues, such as imperialism, fascism, & war.

I also got to meet a new person; something that I try to do regularly... meeting new contacts is always great when building a movement of any sort.

Aside from pain in my back that has popped up today from an old injury I incurred at work during this past winter, things seemed to be going nice today.

I drank some beer and had some ackey & saltfish for lunch from the Jamaican restaurant and bar near my house.

My Comrades had gone off their seperate ways, two new recruits with recent copies of the People's Voice & Granma that I had already read.

My family & I went out for some fresh air and to meet up with another Comrade that came down from Kitchener-Waterloo.

Now, we decided to grab a bottle of coconut rum to take back to my place so we could talk about organizing over a few drinks. But personally I prefer vodka.

Anyways, we changed our minds a few times as we walked in to the liquor store at Young & Dundas inside the atrium....

So, as you can imagine we were walking back & forth a few times down the aisles, trying to come to an agreement on what to buy.

The whole time, the police officer present was watching us. Now, it is not unusual for an officer "of the law" to be on "duty" at this liqour store, but for some reason he decided to follow us & observe us specifically.

Aside from the fact that I was wearing my black cap with the word "commie" embroidered in white on my hat, with a Mao pin on the left side, I was also wearing a 'Che' t-shirt & my book bag with anti-war pins on it. My comrade was wearing a beret with a red star...

My wife who was waiting outside with my children observed this officer, who was obviously getting a good look at our attire... Officer with the badge number 5779 from 51 division.

We paid for our liqour. Communists never steal for personal gain (atleast not this Communist!). I do not steal for my own benefit.

As we were walking out the officer presented himself in front of us, he did not even look me in the face but motioned instead with his finger for my comrade to come forward:

Comrade J: Who me?

Pig 5779: Yes you! Come here!

Comrade J: What did I do?

Pig 5779: We'll see!

Comrade J: whatever I am leaving I didn't do anything!

Pig 5779: You are under arrest!

At this point the pig had physically grabbed my Comrade.

Marcel (me, AKA Mista-X): Why are you arresting my comrade? We haven't done anything!

Pig 5779: You mind your business and just walk out while you still can.

Marcel: I refuse to leave! This is my comrade & you are violating his rights!

The pig then begain to search my Comrades pockets....

Comrade J.: Get your F***ing hands off me pig!

Pig 5779: Calm down buddy!

Comrade J: I am not your buddy & you have no right to do this.

Marcel: Get your hands off of him you pig!

Comrade J: I want your name and badge number, you have no right to search me without prior knowledge of a crime!

Marcel: We will be complaining to your division! You just violated our rights you pig! I have worked...

Pig 5779: shut up, or I will arrest you for ubstructing justice!

Marcel: I am not abstrucing justice, I am trying to observe it... but what you are doing is certainly not justice! I have worked in retail before and you can not detain someone unless you have personally seen with your own eyes an act of theft!

Pig 5779: Get out of here, both of you!

At this point, not finding anything illegal or stolen on my friend who was only minding himself and me he motioned for us to leave...

We shouted some obscenities at him out of anger:

Marcel: We will not let you get away with this!

Pig 5779: Go ahead and try to complain.... you both have my badge number

Comrade J: You are harrassing us because of our political beliefs, this is plainly clear.

Marcel: You are an enemy of the people and tool of the Capitalist state.

Comrade S (My wife): Why is my husband being harrassed?

Marcel: We demand to speak with the manager....

The manager came to tell us that apparently an "anonymous" shopper complained that Comrade J was holding a bottle of Peach Schnapps suspiciously. Peach Schnapps?!? We never even spoke of that product the entire time! We debated Vodka, Rum, Tequila, even Amarreto, but never Peach Schnapps! (sorry if I didn't spell "Schnapps" correctly!)

She also told us how this officer had thrown out another person earlier in the day based on his appearance.

But she still defended his actions. She seemed to be uncomfortable with the fact that I denounced the role of police in our society in front of my children...

Police our not our friends.. I tell my children that & they understand why, having witnessed on more than one occasion the questionable - to put it mildly - actions of the police....

I will be filing a formal complaint.

Unfortunately, many other comrade youths with darker skin colour go through this type of harrassment on a much more frequent bases.

We must take a stand to police harrassment, a stand against racial profiling & profiling based on appearance!

NO TO THE CAPITALIST POLICE STATE!

Comrade Marcel--- I really feel for you. I have had the same thing happen to me and to my brother. Actually, it happen once again last week. I posted it under Arrested in the politics forum.

I hate that these pigs think that they have the right to do this to people based on race and ethnicity. They need to be stopped.

yeah, police harrassments are a very common thing here, happened to me once, and now the group that i hang out with are regulary harrassed by cops pushed up agains walls searched and so on..nothing is done about complaints..but the good thing about being young is that you run fast..;) even though one shouldn´t run if one hasn´t done anything wrong..it is fun to make them tired and annoy them..(the pigs that is..)..

I've been helped out by the police, they are cool in my town except for being rather uptight about skaters. A few actually honked and gave the thumbs up sign when they drove by a protest i was in, and they let us keep our banner hanging from an overpass up. Police in Ames are cool, I dunno about where you live. But point being, police aren't all tools of the capitalist state, but the ones that are must be stopped.

In some parts of germany its was even more extreme...
for example in hamburg there was a peace demonstration not even extreme lefties and than police men came to "hold it under controll" like they said....
one or two in the croud through some thing at the police men an they hit at children and everybody......
some 10-12 year old children were hit with sticks directly into their faces.............
i and some friends will take revenge the next demonstration 50.000 people will not run away of 1000 idiotic pigs.... Hasta la victoria siempre
