Communism? Socialism? ...try, Amish (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amish) , religious puritin bullshit.
I personally didn't like the film, found it boring, with no interesting message. Was quite amusing to see the whole audience laugh at a scene that was intended to make you recoil in horror

I didn't see any real mention of religion at all in the film. The premise is that they all left a capitalist society and specifically the inherent ills of a hyper capitalist society and formed what appeared to be an agrarian commune.
I found it pretty interesting, and well acted.

The film was more a analysis, or a criticism if you like, of the American response to the attacks on 9/11.

Is that what Shamalan(sp) said?
Someone mentioned a puritanical type society, I don't remember that really being the case but I did find the whole movie kind of boring. It would have been better suited as like a half hour twilight zone type of thing. Sorry but if you stretch it out THAT long you better have a better ending.
I think his movies are getting progressively worse.

I kinda liked it, kinda didn't, but the whole plot was pretty much a rip off of the book "out of time." but the whole idea of living in a village like that fascinates me!
