Deputies: Teens Talked About Crime On MySpace
May 11, 2006

LAURENS, SC -- Investigators in Laurens County are looking into the online profiles of five teenage boys arrested and charged in a case of church vandalism.

Deputies say MySpace helped solve that case and locate the teens.

WYFF News 4's Elise Hu found out some of the boys charged have extensive profiles on the Web site.

Friday night, someone tore through the New Durbin Baptist Church.

The Laurens County sheriff estimates the vandals did about $20,000 worth of damage.

Tuesday, five Upstate teens were charged with the crime.

Most are students at Hillcrest High School.

Cory Ambrose is one of the five teens facing charges. On his MySpace profile, he described himself as an "anarchist."

His friend and fellow suspected vandal, Matt Perry also has a profile page. On Perry's page, he wrote: "I hate God, but I love making fun of him".

Perry also called himself an anarchist.

What got deputies even more interested were publicly viewable messages from a third implicated teen, Nick Nonno. On Sunday, Nonno sent Ambrose these messages:

"Have you seen the news man?"

"Dude you're a crazy kid man, Friday night kicked (expletive".)

Nonno also wrote a message to Matt Perry.

It said:

"This weekend was so (expletive) crazy. Dude we went back up there... you know what I'm talking about I don't want to say it on here but yeah we went up there and cops were all over the place. It was insane."

Laurens County Sheriff Ricky Chastain said Internet entries can sometimes stir kids to do the wrong thing.

"Kids get on the internet, start talking about wanting to do this, wanting to do that, and forming clubs and having the same ideas," Chastain said. "And next thing you know they might talk each other into getting together and doing exactly what we saw happen over the weekend at the church."

All five teens were released from custody Wednesday.

Their next hearing is in July.

Under conditions of the bond, they can't contact each other in any way, including over the Internet.
The profiles in question:

http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fusea...iendID=46802168 (http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=46802168)

It's also worth noting that at least one of the several "Columbine copy-cat" plots that were stopped on 4/20 all across the country last month was discovered via MySpace, and the FBI is using records of Livejournal.com postings against those accused in the Green Scare.

Loose lips sink ships!

Wow. *Checks his MySpace profile just in case*

That's how a lot of kids get caught:By bragging about it somewhere. However, the main problem with MySpace is the whole sexual predators scare.

Those kids are stupid and what they did was absolutely pointless. What does burning down a church do? Honestly.

Seriously just what we need, more "Anarchists" who think that pointless violence is the way to go about a revolution.

When you think about it though, there is no direct evidence to prove that the guys actually did it.

The quotes in the article wouldnt stand up in court. It's not "proof" of anything, they don't specifically mention the crime.

Social Reassurance via myspace isn't enough now days, you've got to mess churches too. What's the bet we'll be seeing thousands of angle shots in front of burning churches now?

hahaha

Also in case anybody didn't know, MySpace is owned by Rupert Murdoch and has progressively been tightening censorship over profile content. Hence my ass does not have one.

Savvy lefties have been saying it for years...

DON'T TALK ABOUT ILLEGAL ACTIVITIES ON THE INTERNET!

Cops have also said it: 99% of all "crimes" are "solved" because the perp couldn't resist the urge to boast of his "accomplishments"...and someone afterwards ratted him out.

Remember the 11th Commandment and Keep it Wholly: DON'T GET CAUGHT!

you could easily set up a myspace account under an enemies name (say a BNP member or summit), commit a crime and then put pics of it and brag about it on the myspace account and direct the police to it lol.

You know, I hate to say it, but this is the biggest problem I have with "younger" leftists (self-described, at least). While it isn't representative of the whole (hopefully), many of them find it necessary to tell people the things they do in order to either stand out or fit in. That, and of course that a large number of younger leftists tend to abandon said principles after having to support themselves.. but I can't entirely blame them for that.

Let people know you're an anarchist or communist. But do not give people any notion of your activity. It will get around, whether you like it or not. And please, stick with it!

DON'T GET CAUGHT!

Or, if you do get caught - switch ideology. Play nazi for as long the police has you in custody. Why not?

Oh my! Organization!

If you are in highschool you have to be even more careful, at least 5 kids in my school have been suspended or whatever for posting pictures or talking about smoking or drinking online. One of my friends got fired from her coaching position because she posted a picture of herself drinking on myspace, and she is 20.

I don't see the big deal with Myspace. I just think those profiles are fucking stupid.

And, as Nachie said, it is owned by Rupert Murdoch. Meaning the more profiles = higher ad revenue.

Well, look at this:

one of the kids
I hate God, but I love making fun of him

An obvious sign that he is just a "rebel kid" which are doing it to "be cool"...if he gets jailed he'll become a christian and a conservative and then go out and become an "example" for the rest of the population.

I suspect most of these "my political beliefs" commie kids with Che t-shirts that we get here are kinda like this. As the cliche says, when they "grow up" and have children and get a job they will just become average Lovers of The Existing Institutions.

Also, I get the feeling most of those Che kids who claim to be "commies" that claim RATM are their favourite band do it out of "idealistic correctness" or something, which supposedly makes them "fit in" with the "comrades". They've accepted revolutionary "ideals" as a "religion for young people". Then they go "cynical" after they stop being hippies.

Those kids need to be spanked and sent to bed. Burning churches indeed- they have no idea even WHY they are doing it. And talking about it just makes them that much more stupid, like they need some sort of validation to 'be somebody'. Get a diploma- then you'll be somebody.
