It seems that an alliance of India's Communist parties have had some sweeping successes in elections.

Thoughts on this or the movement in general in India (that includes the Maoists).

Well, it's not particularly surprising; India has recently became an urbanised capitalist paradise and moved out of a semi-feudal stage, so this is only the next step; more than likely, worker-friendly reforms similar to what we have had in Europe will eventually be made to stop the communists from getting support; but this is no bad thing as it means businesses will not be able to flock everything to one area for production. When most of the world is at the same level of Europe I think the revolution will begin; we are ready in Europe but all we do is abstract labour, service jobs, so there isn't actually any means of production to seize, or not enough. When it's no longer profitable to shift everything to impoverished less developed countries, we will find manufacturing industries making a comeback to Europe and then it's just a matter of time really.

At the national level, "communism" in India generally involves leftist-wannabes fellating the pro-US and neo-liberal INC. Luckily, things are better in the Red Corridor, where the INC leads rightist opposition coalitions and the Hindutva Nazis are less relevant than a Paris Hilton shopping spree.
