I have heard and seen pictures of members of the Black Panthers walking around neighborhoods holding weapons and following police.

Is it legal to have a weapon if it is not concealed?

Depends who you point it at.

It depends on where you are and what kind of license you have. It is generally illegal to have a gun on you if it is concealed unless you have a concealed firearms license, which can be difficult to get. Carrying a pistol, visible, isn't always illegal. It all depends on the scenario.

My guess is that what these Black Panthers are doing is illegal.

At the time in whichever state it was (slipped my mind) it was legal to carry a firearm with you on the street so long as the bullet chamber was empty if I'm correct...

Eventually a law got passed making carrying a firearm illegal altogether...

Depends what state you're in if you're in the USA... or what country you're in if you're elsewhere... I know about 3/5 venezeulans carry a handgun...

In flordia lots of people carry weapons as well...

so yeah, just depends mate

Before a lot of the gun restriction laws, it was legal to carry guns around in full view. I think it's still legal in Alaska and Vermont. However, people now have to settle for concealed firearms permits.

Oakland California.

When they saw black men arming and protecting their neighborhoods from police brutality they quickly set up to outlaw this practice.

What the black panthers did was legal at the time, but I don't think you could do it now.

Guns are not a good thing. Outlawing them makes a lot of sense.

Yes, in the hands of a repressive state or fanatics, they are not.

Outlawing them makes a lot of sense.
banning them is a doube-edged sword. It may lessen violence but only givesthose who have guns more power.

If you really want to carry weapons, disguise them as clothes:
-A strong belt with a heavy buckle
-An iron chain as a belt
-Combat boots (preferably steel-tipped)
-Spikes (they're quite expenseive though)
-...

Chances are you may start to look like a punk ;)

Okay, assume the state outlaws guns; do you think they would surrender their own as well? Fuck no! What you propose is the relative strengthening of the state.

I dont know what the law in Australia would be, and i dont know what you mean by fruit knife, but usually there is a length restriction and concealed carry restrictions.

That said, what you must not say is that you are carrying it for defense, especially if you have just used it for defense.
Call it a tool never a weapon, when talking to the cops, say it is for work etc.

Boxcutters are great. Legal, lethal, cheap and common they also have the psychological -clicking- noise which indicates that anyone who messes with you will soon be ugly.

Phillips , spike style screwdrivers are a good choice, and they make shoulder bags to carry baseball bats in, which are less suspicious than just brandishing it.

I'll get rid of my guns as soon as the state does.

Look at America and how people are getting show down all the time. Guns have more negatives than positives, unfortunately.

Some of those people getting shot deserved it.

It is better to have a gun and not need it than not have a gun and need it.
