Reclaim The Allotment Party!
Sunday 14th May, 1.30pm, outside the Three Tuns Pub
As Reading Council continue to sell off more and more allotment land to the highest bidders, the Rage Collective* have decided to take some of this land back. As a result, we invite you to help us to reclaim some growing space on an area designated as 'disused' at Bulmershe allotments. There will be a BBQ and a few beers for those willing to do a bit of digging.
We think it important to take food production back into our own hands and defend the little bit of green space that is left around us. We plan to plant mainly vegetables, but also flowers. Flowers will be good for tempting insects away from our veg but we also hope that if our plot looks nice it will encourage people to help us to defend it.
As Primal Seeds (www.primalseeds.org) say "Learning to produce our own food is essential if we are to ever truly take control of our own lives. It liberates us from the role of passive consumer, remote from real decisions, alienated from nature."
So bring your spades and forks as well as a bit of elbow grease. Any food or drink contributions would also be well received. Children very welcome. See you on the 14th of May at 1.30 outside the Three Tuns pub.
Keep Digging!
