NEW YORK (Reuters) - Long criticised by conservative Christians for profiting from violent or sexually graphic films that corrupt the young, Hollywood is starting to see there is money to be made catering to those critics.

"On Sunday, 43 percent of America was in church," Jonathan Bock, head of a movie marketing company that specialises in religious audiences, said at a panel discussion on "What Would Jesus Direct?" at the Tribeca Film Festival this week.

"43%"? Probably not. :)

The people who go to movies these days are almost all adolescents and young adults.

That's a poor demographic for "Christian films". :D

Yet people of all ages came in droves to see The Passion.

A powerful movie can bring almost any demographic to the theatre. Only your typical movie-goer sees the really shitty films. They go to the theatre for the sake of going to the theatre.

Yes but willing people? It would be interesting to see a poll on the number of people who saw the passion and how many went on their own free will. I wonder how many were children who had no choice in the matter.

As I recall, churches used The Passion as an "organizing tool", buying up whole blocks of tickets for their congregations.

It became, at least in some circles, a "religious obligation" to go see that piece of shit.
