Any fans of the so called 'Celtic Rock' pioneers, The Pogues? I fucking love them myself and think they deserve all the credit they get. I can only hope that real Irish bands will always have the audacity to say fuck you to the british, because we deserve it (well not me personally but a lot of my fellow brits)
Were The Pogues an Irish band? I always thought that only 2 of the 9 Pogues were actually born there with the rest from England and Cait O'Rioden from Nigeria.

I'm sure this thread has existed in one guise or another before and should be promptly locked with a link to the other one(s) or at least some shit telling people to do a search.
I can't be fucked; I am not a mod and as a some-time poster, reader/member of this forum I reserve the right to whinge about shit.
I would not call The Pogues pioneers of what you called them. The idea wasn't rock it was punk songs crossed with Irish/Celt folk melodies. I'd say that Alan Stivell did the Celt/Breton Rock thing (which the Pogues aren't) before anyone I can think of off of the top of my head. Apparently he's worked with MacGown before but I've never heard it just read about it so I don't know how reliable it is.
The Pogues are great but don't just go making new threads willy-nilly as it's annoying for people who've already posted in the other threads about the same topic, it underminds them and furthermore it just clogs up the forum and makes the discussion more shit because a lot of people will just react with 'I really can't be fucked after the last 4 times I posted in the thread of the same topic created by 4 different kids'.
You might want to check out The Chieftains.
This part of the forum really needs a stickied partial thread index with threads nominated by the posters to go in there. All the mod would have to do over a period of time is add and index as shit gets nominated. It's all well and good deleting shit threads but I have my doubts as to how many actually get nuked and duplicate threads are shitter than rubbish ones as they fuck up the order rather than just sinking because they suck.
I didn't post this in the members section or whatever because it belongs in this thread specifically and I have also talked about the music and stayed on topic.
That's all.

Check out the Wolfe Tones - they're probably the most well known Irish Republican musical group.

stop *****ing, floyd
I personally have no problem with redundant threads, unless there's a similar or identical topic from the same week floating around in the first page of the forum. Which there isn't.
Using the search function would be a good idea, but I think you;re alone in being pissed off.
Please PM me and explain this idea about a thread index. I'm interested... and this isn't exactly the place for duscussing that.
As for The Pogues, they're awesome. Perhaps not as pioneering as they're made out to be... but they are very influential and easily the best of its kind and among the best punk artists in general.
