Has anyone heard updates/news/information on this? They're having Benicio del Toro play Che. I would prefer Johnny Depp, personally.

HOWEVER, if they used Depp then it would turn into a "Johnny Depp movie", where girls cream their pants at the sight of him wearing a turtleneck, let alone with his shirt off. So its probably for best that a non-male-superstar is playing Che...plus he's actually Hispanic :D
Actually I think del Toro is more fitting. This is supposed to be about the "old" Che (he was never old, but you get my point.)
However I feel the need to state that both Depp and del Toro are male actors. ;)

Benicio Del Toro looks nothing like Che
There's already a thread about this in the Che Guevara forum where we have constantly argued the similarity issue between Benicio and Che.

Who cares. It's just another che cash-in. Lenin was right in the introduction to state and the revolution. A revolutionary is shunned in his life time and then the capitalist class tries to turn him into a harmless icon after it.

The girls were crazy about Che, and the girls are crazy about Johnny Depp. So that's allready simmilar.
they should get tom cruise.
they should get tom cruise.
  .

Hopefully it'll get more people interested in Che and then in leftist ideas. Just maybe.

translation: (excuse to me if it is not grammar corrected)
''We are going it to do, it is being rewritten and now it is going to direct it Steven Soderbergh. We decided that it was impossible to reduce all its life by space of a pair of hours, so we are going away to center year of its life in the last. It is not easy to finance a film on the Che Guevara in the United States. There they are wondered why to do it. The important thing is to stay, to rely on the truth of the personage.''

I have that picture on my school binder. It's a sticker from the WIL that says "Just say no to capitalism".
Depp can play anybody.

I think Johnny Depp would make a much better Che' because he kind of just molds into roles, because in every movie he has been in, the characters seem like characters not actors, playing a certain character.
Plus he is uber hot, so you know that is always a plus. :D .
I just hope they don't completely destroy who Che' the man really was, with the typical Hollywood bull crap.

the way they can bulllshit edit that, ludacris could play trotsky, then they would do something stupid like have eminem play lenin and 50 cent is marx. nut then the movie wouldn't be about communism, it would be about vodka

Lets hope people decide to read after veiwing this movie. The movie will be insightful...but hopefully people dont become "cinematized".

Yeah. We had already decided on that. Movies will be a good introduction assuming that it represents Che accurately but it won't be much more than that.

(Benicio del Toro says that Che Guevara is '' a human hero '' and respect a lot him because he is the defender of the people. (the interview is of 2004)

It wouldn't be that bad if hollywood paints him as a saint, on the other hand if they turn him into a devil, it would be bad.

It was pushed back so that the director could work on Oceans 13.
Personally, I think the director needs to get his priorities straight.

They'll just have to add a scene or two with him tearing down the road in his motorcycle to rescue Jennifer Aniston before Dennis Hopper dices her into pieces.
I'm thinking Orlando Bloom and Rosario Dawson, the thing will write itself!
