"Nizar Khazraji, a prominent Iraqi general who defected to the West, was
assassinated Monday on his way to attend a U.S.-called meeting of
opposition groups in the southern city of Nassiriya."

This prominent general was chief of staff when the Halabja massacre
happened (among others). This terrible record did not faze the CIA who saw
him as the new "strongman" Iraq needed. Now it seems we'll never see how
this new Saddam Hussein would be created, nurtured and, finally, killed,
all without the Iraqis having a say in the whole thing. So another one will
be culled from the current crop. That's called "democracy" in some dark
quarters.
