So the revolution in Nepal has gotten me to wondering...
If we win the fight there, how many nations will that be who are politically Communist, or some form of the Left side of the Spectrum?
How many nations are on the way to Communism?
the leftist govts can be recognised by their flags or international names. it would be a good way to check in an encyclopedia and count them.
don't take it,just kidding ;)

Firstly, Nepal is still a country. People protest there because one man has the power - the king. Now they're talking about returning the power to parliment, which will calm people down. There is no "revolution", at least not what I would call it. They simply want capitalism over feudalism. Where are the street protests now?
Secondly, there are no communist nations. There can never be, because communism can not exist if there are nations (to be picky). On the other hand, you could have socialism, but there is no true socialism in the world (if you ask me), the closest may be Cuba. North Korea practices totalitarianism, China has it's "Chinese socialist economy", which is basically authoritarian capitalism.
Laos and Vietnam are both going in the direction China is headed. Maybe some Scandinavian countries have some sort of "good wellfare", but it's still capitalism, no matter where you look. I think the same could be said about northern South America (Chavez), he is resisting the US, but has he really "abolished capitalism"?
How many nations are on the way to Communism?
Today, none. Someone said France would be the first to "abolish state and capital", then the rest of Europe will follow, but my concern for Europe is that there are many reactionary and nationalist powers, which would use the chaos should it erupt within the next coming years.
Who knows, maybe it will start on Mars when humans colonize it. After all, it is a Red Planet :) ...

Well not many nations are on there way to communism, but many have various socialist/communist traits, which still put them in the left.
What a "socialist/communist traits"?
A socialist state it is a state where the workers have the capacity. Where they decide themselves their needs as well economic as social through their Soviets. No country had this profile with share the USSR of 1917 until the completion of the process of bureaucratization of the state. Neither Cuba, nor China never had this profile. Nor no other country that the Stalinist counter-revolutionaries designated "Socialists". In Nepal, the oppositional bourgeoisie with monarchy will take again the capacity because it will be supported by the international bourgeoisie. And in any event the Maoists would have been able only to impose a mode of terror pseudo-Socialist. He controls already the campaigns around Katmandou and make there reign terror. The only solution for the proletariat of Nepal is to build the revolutionary working party in all independence of the bourgeoisie opposition and the Maoists.

i wasnt talking about complete socialist states, but many countries have leftist qualities, so they can almost be identified as leftist, such as canada having a public and free health care system.

People allways seem to judge a country/state wrongly, brcause they have not gone all the way to communism or a scialist state they get put down.Do you not realize that it is increasingly difficult to go to full socialism on your own,the whole world is basically against you,i think we should be looking to countries like Venezuella and cuba for inspiration, maybe not china or north korea but states that lean to the left deserve our solidarity. These countries probably would go the whole way to socialism if they were capable of it but at the moment they just dont have the back-up.

You're right. There has never been a communist state. Socialist states have existed, but they have almost always been poorly managed or ostrecized so badly by the international community (read the US) that their people live in substandard conditions. The greatest example of this is Cuba, who, even after over 40 years of illegal blockade, is now sending doctors to weather-ravaged countries around Latin America, and even offered 200 doctors to help after Katrina, but of course, Bush wouldn't allow it.
Venezuela is the model country. Chavez has revolutionized modern governments, and is reaching out to many other nations to help. He is even helping the poor in the US with his rebates on gas and heating oil. I attended the November Bolivarian meeting in Los Angeles, and was even the interpreter for the delegation from Venezuela (strictly by happenstance). I can say that the Left movement in the US, at least as far as Los Angeles is concerned, is in disarray. They are poorly staffed, poorly managed and disconnected.
I can also say that I visited warsaw, Poland, in December, 1978 (bad timing). A word to the wise ........................... it's friggin' cold in Warsaw in December. Do Not go there in the winter. But what I saw were empty shops and long lines. The socialism that was practiced in the former Soviet Union and its satellite countries was a travesty and unworthy of being called Socialism. Karl Marx would have been ashamed.
Fidel Castro has also done a wonderful job in Cuba, despite the illegal blockade imposed by the US. He has shown the grit and resources of a people who won't let themselves be defeated by a superbully to the north.
