I find it great that people want to honor him. But I'm not sure what Che would make of this personality cult that has grown around him.

you have reason, but if this serves to diffuse its ideas I believe that it would be happy

I think that Che would smile at the people admiring him and would say that communist ideas made him the person he is. Also, he may have laughed saying that he had other pics where he was older...
I have tears in my eyes when I think that he could have been alive to say those words...
Where are you from Tanya that you do not know english very well?

To tell you the truth I think he'd be both happy, but also annoyed. Happy because of the people that follow his ideals, yet annoyed because his shirts have become a capitalist sham.... <_<

That's a beautifully done mural. I wish I had that kind of skill :(
And I think Che would be pissed off that his face is being used as a tool for capitalists to make money.

Yeah, me too. What a wonderful city it must be! Also, for the Lenin statue in Belfast: http://www.connection.se/hem/anders/resor/...ild/belfast.jpg (http://www.connection.se/hem/anders/resor/lenin/bild/belfast.jpg)

why is there a lenin statue and che mural in belfast? I mean sure, its great but seems pretty random, would understand in more in latin america or russia. didnt think there would be many lefties in belfast.
Well, the Lenin statue is just for commercializing a bar called Kremlin. Actually it is pretty sad, a little ironic maybe...
I know that there is a Lenin statue in Seattle and it is not for mocking or commercializing

Beechmount, round the corner from 'Flanigan's Solicitors'. It's opposite the Culturlann if you know that place. Might be a bit tatty now, I can't remember whether they redone it or not
Also BOZG, there's a new Connolly mural on the Falls

Yeah, it's also just around the corner from Republican Sinn Fein's office on the Falls. <_<

No offense here, but i think this is the kind of thing he wouldnt like. Because right there lies a flavor of personality cult.
However despite the personality cult around him, he has become a great symbol of internationalism and the socialist movement. In the Americas however, his symbol seems to be very Pan-American.

I'm pretty sure I've seen the Belfast mural. Which part of the wall is it on?

Not disagreeing with you, but those paintings, flags, ect were not actually for the capitalists. Most were rather pro-left. Its not really helping the capitalists there.

Don't worry about it too much, if it weren't for che's status as a folk hero, many of the people on this board wouldn't have ever become aquanted with communist ideas. If Che knew that he would indirectly introduce thousands of people to Marx, he'd be happy!

The Kremlin is a gay bar - nothing political about the statue whatsoever, and no I've never been there lol.
