Hey

So I go to school in New Jersey, and recently on the school walls a girl has begun a painting of Che. I think it is great, I am a big Che supporter and believed in his cause...But a lot of kids in my school, mostly cuban kids see it as a symbol of terror. So thier will be a board metting held, in which they will determine if the artist can finish the painting. Someone asked me to speak in the defense of the artist...I was just wondering what opinions you guys have on this, and what you would say to the people, and parents who dont want the Che painting completed?

You could say, that che was a hero who died fighting against regimes in latin america which exploited the working class.
You could also tell the kids to STFU because they weren't living there at the time.

I think it may works if you focus on what the u.s. has done and is doing all over the world in the recent decades with giving them data and showing them pictures then tell them that they shoudnt believe the propagana that such a regime is trying to make for che.tell them that che was trying to make as many as trouble he could for such a regime to make a better world for humankindso they coudnt tolerate him and killed him. give some details about his last hours.I hope it will a good impact. It may be hard but dont doubt that che desrve it.i spose we can help you gathering information.
just an idea

You could say that Che was a kind of man that shared everything with the others: his money, clothes and his freedom.

If it weren't for him, the countries in the South America would still be under domination. But somehow I do not think that will change theri minds since they are americans. I do not know what to say.

They will probably say that the school is depolitised (sp?) and un religious, so she has no right to paint a political figure in the school wall...

There's really not much you can do about the Cubans, they're probably descendants of the exiles so they'll always be opposed to Che. As for the rest of the school, you can list the positive ways in which Che has impacted the world and the inspiration that he continues to have. By the way, who originally allowed for the painting? This is all a decision by the school officials?
