Mexico and its Vanguard
Mexicos revolution in 1910, led to a political system not unlike that of the Soviet Union.
From up until the crash of its economy in the 70s and 80s Mexico had a largely nationalized economy. The IMF made it privatize everything in order for the country to receive a loan.
PRI acted as an almost vanguard-ist party, not too dissimilar to that of the Communist party of the Soviet Union. Although PRI were ideologically capitalist, the nature of the Mexican democracy leaves much room for comparison with that of the One-party system of the Soviet Union.
Just as in the Soviet Unions state was dominated by the CPSU, PRI dominated Mexicos state, and it used the state to make sure that the populace would ensure there reelection. It had an incident not to dissimilar to Tiananmen Square.
This was all because PRI, like the CPSU was able to entrench its position within the state so they were almost indistinguishable from one another.
So what does this say about the idea of a party being at the forefront of revolutions?
Well the system in the USSR totally failed, and was not democratic. The Mexican system under PRI, was not either and also failed. Both PRI and the CPSU became corrupt and indeed used violence to repress to the populace.
In my opinion, this says to me, that a party, no matter its ideological bias, be it cappy or commie if its in the position of power for a long enough time it will become corrupt.
Maybe this is due to careerism, maybe its something else.
However, I think that if we are to have a vanguard or mass workers party during revolution it should look different to both PRI and the CPSU.
Firstly I think that all members of the working class should be admitted, no elitist crap. Secondly have a leadership that is elected using demarchy, that is by lottery. Then, a pluralistic style of parties, that act not as governors but only to give advice people.
This way, if there is a party, its form will be free from potential corruption, but there will also be a well rounded view of different communist ideas that the people can choose.
