What is the overall opinion on Che Lives of the SPLA and the movements against the Sudanese government's arabization plans to purge Sudan of its non-muslim majority?

I don't know much about them, but they are resisting religious fundamentalists who are hell-bent on ethnically cleansing their country.

Both the Islamist regime, and the Christian fundamentalists are not to be supported by Socialists.
I believe Sudan did at one point have a large (albeit Stalinist) CP. Anyone know what happened to it?

correction: sudan has a majority muslim population, i think about 70%. actually if you look at the so-called "arabized" janjaweed rebels, they look like black africans. this is not so much a racial issue. most sudanese are a mix of black african and arab african. but when ur a muslim, race isnt important. so u cant use the same yardstick to measure race in the sudan that u use in the united states. most of sudans christians live in the deep south, they have a form of christianity that is mixed with indigenous animism.

Sudanese society, particularly in the north, does try to 'arabize' black Africans. The genocide in Darfur is based on ethnicity, with the government attempting to cleanse Darfur of its native population. The majority of Darfuris are Muslim, but they are being killed and raped because of their skin color.
I have to ask you: what, if not ethnicity or religion, is this entire conflict based on?
